Staff Anaesthetist About the facility University Hospital Geelong is a 400-bed University affiliated teaching hospital, set in a beautiful bay city with access to a renowned surf coast and excellent lifestyle and sporting facilities. There are many local cultural activities and only 55 minutes away are the extensive facilities of Melbourne. The department of Anaesthesia, Peri-operative & Pain Medicine supports a wide range of clinical anaesthetic services including cardiac with a strong emphasis on TOE, obstetric and paediatric services, regional anaesthesia and a benchmark Peri-operative Service. The multi-disciplinary Pain Medicine service is recognized for training by the Faculty of Pain Medicine of the College of Anaesthetists. The Department has a strong commitment to excellence in clinical, education, quality, and research activities, and has a significant interest in development of processes of care, including IT systems. About the role A vacancy has become available for a Full Time Specialist Cardiac anaesthetist. This position is a full time permanent position. The Department consists of 20 Staff Consultants, 25 Visiting part-time Consultants and 16 Registrars and Provisional Fellows, as well as four Acute Pain nurses and three research nurses. Subspeciality interests are encouraged within the post. Commencement date by mutual agreement. It is expected that you will: Have a positive, enthusiastic, team-orientated personality with a strong interest in innovation and development of services and models of care. Be patient-focused in the provision of high quality clinical care. Facilitate and promote a co-operative, multi-disciplinary team approach to all aspects of the service Contribute to and value teaching/training at undergraduate and postgraduate levels. Be actively involved in and supportive of research activities within the department. Maximise the efficient use of Barwon Health resources, so as to provide optimum care to all patients Contribute to audit and other departmental maintenance of standards processes Exhibit behaviours that demonstrate respect for colleagues and facilitate good communication within the department and with other departments. Represent the department within Barwon Health and the wider anaesthetic and medical communities. Transoesophageal echo skills are an essential component of the role and transthoracic echo skills are desirable. Excellent pay and conditions will be in accordance with the Barwon Health Staff Anaesthetists’ Certified agreement. Participation in the afterhours on-call/recall roster will be required which is remunerated in addition to the base salary.
