DEPUTY EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR Executive Director Exempt

Basic Function Serves as Chief Operating Officer (COO) and the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) with responsible for managing the daily operations for the Colorado and Denver Bar Associations (“Bar Associations”). Plans and monitors the financial affairs of the associations and reports to the appropriate leadership and committees. Recommends and participates in formulation of the Bar Associations’ missions, goals, objectives and related policies. May delegate portions of these responsibilities as appropriate. Responsibilities 1. Manage Staff  Responsible for the supervision, management and administration of all staff personnel activities, including recruiting, hiring, evaluating, training, promoting, terminating and compensating personnel within the adopted budget, guidelines and policies of the associations.  Provide adequate training and motivation to assure growth and development of staff expertise.  Responsible for oversight and management of all operations, programs, and services.  Ensure that all levels of the organization consistently produce high quality work products and regularly look for opportunities to improve the processes, programs, and efforts of the Bar Associations.  Ensure that resources are well managed to effectively support current operations and strategic plans. 2. Provide Financial Management and Budget Control  Responsible for supervising fiscal and budgetary matters of the Bar Associations, including budget preparation, accounting, financial reporting, audit and long range financial planning.  Ensure all funds, physical assets, investments, and property are appropriately safeguarded and administered.  Develop and oversee non-dues revenue projects and opportunities as appropriate.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities      

 

Works with the CEO and members of the Leadership Team to develop the strategic plan, strategic funding goals and budget. Works with the Director of Accounting to oversee all financial activities, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, purchasing, payroll, tax reporting and risk management. Appraises the program's financial position and issues timely financial and operating reports (monthly, quarterly, annually and as-needed) to leadership, staff and boards. Oversees fiscal management, compliance and investment functions. Oversees successful completion of financial audits. Directs the preparation of program short-term and long-range financial plans and budgets based on broad organization goals and objectives.

Develops the annual expense budget and analyzes spending of funds. Develops and implements fiscal policies and procedures and internal controls to support sound financial management. Negotiates and manages all corporate insurance policies Oversees all aspects contracts management, financial reporting, oversight of contract compliance, and maintaining state registrations Oversees the cash management system, evaluating the need for obtaining credit or investing surpluses Determines the organization's cost allocation methodology Strives to increase individual, team, department and organizational capacity Other duties as assigned

Knowledge, Skills & Experience     

Master of Business Administration or equivalent advanced degree. Minimum 5 years of experience as a financial manager/leader in the non-profit or business sector. Experience working with committees and a Board of Directors. Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate technical budget and financial information to board and staff. Strong interpersonal skills with proven ability to lead, develop and mentor staff during organizational development and transitions.

Other Considerations  

Ability to attend events and board or committee meetings during non-business hours. Willingness and ability to travel to other parts of Colorado.
