FUNDRAISE MY WAY STEP-BY-STEP GUIDE

GET INSPIRED When picking a fundraiser it is important to choose an event or activity you are passionate about. Organize an event that holds special meaning for you, that fits your personality, and that excites you. What makes the activity you’re planning successful? Your enthusiasm! Whether the cause or the method is your inspiration, your enthusiasm will ensure you meet your goals. Just remember to choose something you’re comfortable with when starting out. Share your fundraising ideas with friends or colleagues and get them to help you with your fundraising: the more ideas that are thrown into the pot, the better your fundraising will be and the more fun you will have. Tip: Be sure to ask your employers or teachers to get involved – having their support can help to make your fundraising an even greater success.

PICK AN IDEA AND GET CREATIVE When creating a Fundraiser, choose an event or activity that will attract participants and support from the local community. A creative and unique event has a greater potential for motivating others to get involved. From the ordinary to the extraordinary, any fundraising event can be successful and fun. There are many different events and activities you can turn into fundraisers. Below are just a few ideas. • Sports Tournament

• Talent Show

• Bowling Tournament

• Dress Down Day/ Casual Day at Work

• Car Wash

• Pancake Breakfast

• Bake Sale

• Concert

• Garage Sale

• Games Night

• Yard work for donation

Now that you’ve selected and event or activity it’s time to think of a fun and unique name for your fundraiser. Choose one that will generate interest from potential supporters, and a name people will easily remember. 2

ORGANIZING YOUR FUNDRAISER Budget: Identify all potential income and expenses. Use this handy budget template. Tip: Secure a sponsor or gift-in-kind donation to reduce event expenses and increase contributions to the World Partnership Walk. Create a “To Do” list: Develop a list of everything that needs to be done before, during and after your event. Try working back from the event date of the fundraiser to get a better idea of timing. Ask friends, family, colleagues and volunteers for help! Book your location (if applicable) well in advance to guarantee availability. Be sure to check if there are any special permits, contracts, licenses and/or insurance required for the venue. (i.e.: you may need to obtain a beverage license, liability insurance, and/or venue rental contract). Depending on the type and size of your fundraiser, your home can also serve as a great location for an annual activity Tip: Pick a location with room to grow if you are planning to host an annual event.

FUNDRAISE Set Goals: Consider your audience when selecting your participation fees, product and prices. Be sure to communicate your fundraising goal. Let people know your goal and why achieving it is important to you. Print out this thermometer to show progress towards your goal. Publicize your fundraising: Share why you support the Walk. Look for opportunities to tell everyone you know what you’re doing and why. Share your story, photos and information about your fundraiser. The more people know about your fundraising efforts, the more support you will get and the more money you will raise. Here are some great ways to promote your fundraising event or activity at no cost to you: • Ask your close friends and family to reach out to their networks on your behalf and to spread the word about your fundraising. • Use your Facebook and Twitter: Social media is a great way to share information updates to a large group in an instant. Write a post on Facebook or tweet about your event. Use the hashtag #WPWalk and #Stepforward to highlight your fundraising efforts. Tip: Ask your friends to ‘follow’ World Partnership Walk on Twitter and to ‘like us’ on Facebook – we will keep them up to date about our work.
