Stolen Laptop/Tablets Reporting Procedure (revised 05/18/17)

If your District laptop\tablet is stolen, please follow this procedure to report the theft and assist with recovery: 1. Report the laptop stolen to your supervisor, principal or librarian. 2. File a police report with local authorities and obtain:  A police report number, even if it is a temporary one, within 24 hours of the device being stolen  Police department name and phone number  Officer’s name 3. Email the ITS Helpdesk at [email protected] or call 510.231.1125 to report the device stolen. Please include:  Date and time of theft 

Location of theft (include full address of where you last saw the device. Also include

  

any accessories that were stolen with the laptop (e.g., case, power cord, etc.) Details of theft (provide any details that may assist us in recovery) Who was using the laptop last? (Very important) Device name if possible.

Best practices to prevent laptop theft -

Never leave your laptop unattended. When not in use, carry it with you or lock it up. Always lock your classroom when you leave the room. Never leave your laptop in your car unattended.
