– CA TLMS® Tape Management (CA TLMS) current release 12.6 ▪ 14.0 is incremental waiting for customer validation
Centralized. It is a transaction based system with all VMF updates done by the TLMS sub-task of CTS. Tape retention by default is controlled by a tape librarian who can allow users to set retention via JCL.
CA 1 – R14.0 ▪ New Option – RPGDG – Will act the same as RP but will only apply to GDG’s. – It will default to the same value as RP if not specified. – An example would be: RP 005 RPGDG CATALOG
▪ Advantages: – Allows for easier assignment of default retention based on the type of file being created. – Easy way to set all GDGs to have a default of CATALOG as their retention. 10
▪ New Option – EXPSECA and EXPSECV – EXPSECA (Expiration Security Action) – values are NONE, WARN and ABEND – Determines if an external security call (similar to BLPRES and BLPNORES) should be made for use of high-value RETPD or EXPDT values (including EXPDT=99365) TMSEXPDT pgm.
▪ Advantages: – Allows for a way to control the usage of PERMANENT via JCL keyword through security rules
– If EXPSECA is NONE, then EXPSECV is ignored. – If EXPSECV=3650, (and EXPSECA is WARN or ABEND) – a security call will be made whenever a file is created with an EXPDT/RETPD more than 10 years in the future of 99365. – No security call for LDATE, CYCLE or CATALOG control files
CA TLMS – Enhancements for 14.0 ▪ Add Volume Range command – TLMSINQR program allows vvvvvv-vvvvv ▪ DVA, DVD, DVH, DVM, DVR, UPD, UPV, BRK, DV, CLR
▪ New ROBSCR system parameter – Robotic (virtual) tape system should be notified when a tape volume has gone scratch. Based on &ATLTYP field in VMF. DFT=NO
CA TLMS – Enhancements for 14.0 ▪ New MNTCNT system parameter – Set the # of times a tape can be rejected before job gets U02220C abend. DFT=7 ▪ CAT9735E EXCEEDED MAX REJECT COUNT FROM TLMSIPO, MNTCNT=xxx
CA TLMS – Enhancements for 14.0 ▪ New TEMPSCR system parameter – Allow a temp dsn to be retained until scratched by TRS or user. DFT=YES
▪ New IEC710I system parameter – When EOV is reached before EOF and no secondary volume is specified or cataloged the next volume from CA TLMS is supplied to the OS and rest of data is read. DFT=NO
CA TLMS – Enhancements for 14.0 ▪ Replaced WTG intercepts with IBM supported Tape Exit Point (TEP) intercepts. 25 replaced by 2 OSI’s ▪ Some LPA-Resident modules moved above the line ▪ TLMS Cobol programs converted to Cobol LE
CA TLMS – Enhancements for 14.0 ▪ New CATVMFC Utility – VMF Extend process is enhanced to force a “break chain” to free volume records that have EXPDT=60001 chaining errors.
▪ New CATVMIDR Utility – Dynamically rebuild a new VMI while tape processing continues across the shared VMF environment. Use CATVMILP utility to print the new & old index records to produce report TLMS061.
▪ non-VSAM EAV (cylinder managed) Support – The ability to support the writing of non-VSAM data sets to cylinder managed areas on EAV DASD volumes ▪ Restore/Recover
RO95355
▪ Move/Copy and Reports RO96147 ▪ Vbackup/Vrecover
▪ Part 1 – Partial Support of IBM Z Pervasive Encryption – – – – –
Backup/Archive will use dss data mover Move/Copy will bypass encrypted data sets to keep integrity USEDSSIO new value "encryp” Added 2 new messages 0025 & 0029 RI97915 announcement RO97920
▪ Part 2 – Full Support of Pervasive Encryption – For Backup/Archive/Restore/Recover/Move/Copy In Progress
CA Disk Researching R12.5 – Need Customer Validation
▪ Implementation of DB2 system level back ups – perform the full backup and recovery of the DB2 storage pool using the same DFSMSdss Flashcopy APIs that DFSMShsm uses – create new CA Disk commands – Does this fit with the process currently used in your DB2 backup and recovery procedures? – Need customer participation – https://validate.ca.com 24
