Structural Steel Detailing Technical Diploma The need for Detailers with SDS/2 experience and knowledge continues to grow both nationally and internationally, and Northcentral Technical College (NTC) and Design Data in Education have partnered to provide the training necessary to excel in this high-demand profession.
What is SDS/2? SDS/2 software products provide automatic detailing, engineering information, fabrication data and much more, reducing the time required to design, detail, fabricate and erect steel.
NTC offers a Structural Steel Detailing Technical Diploma, taught by an SDS/2 Certified Educator, through its innovative Virtual College (virtualcollege.ntc.edu). The program is available anywhere in the country and allows students to learn anywhere in the world as long as they can access the internet. At NTC’s Virtual College, classes begin weekly and can be completed on your own schedule with technology that lets you learn where you live.
What is a Structural Steel Detailer? Detailers have a fundamental and practical knowledge of how steel is used to construct support frames for modern commercial and industrial buildings. They receive designs from engineers and architects and use manual and computer-aided drafting methods to convert them into plans needed for construction.
This career would be a good fit for anyone who enjoys computer drafting. According to www.bls.gov, the median annual wage for professionals in this line of work was $49,630 in May 2012.
Design Data in Education Design Data always has an eye on the next generation of engineers, detailers and industry experts. Knowing that SDS/2 can help educate and challenge future workers and leaders in the steel industry, the company aggressively campaigns to equip institutions of higher learning with copies of SDS/2 software and access to Design Data’s full scope of training and support.
Many colleges and universities now use the SDS/2 system as part of their curriculum. With hands-on SDS/2 experience, students graduate with an edge in the competitive structural steel detailing and engineering market.
