We will continue to support YOU in achieving the fullest life possible by creating new opportunities for you to give, receive, share and connect with others with and without disabilities. ARTISTIC EXPRESSION DRUMMING WITH MACPHAIL

7-8PM AT ST. LUKE’S CHURCH FEE: FREE WEEKLY ON WEDNESDAYS 5/31—8/16 EXCEPT 7/5 AND 8/9 Bucket Drumming with MacPhail Center for Music: An urban phenomenon found all over the world, bucket drumming enables people to make music without requiring an instrument at home. Music can be a powerful and effective outlet for the development of social interaction, attention, motor skills, and self-expression. In this offering, we will focus on adaptive bucket drumming in a group setting using drum heads specifically designed for buckets.

PAINTING SUMMERTIME IN MINNESOTA 6-7:30PM AT CDH FRIDAYS 6/16, 7/14, 8/11

In this class, we will paint colorful scenes of Minnesota in the summertime. The paintings we create will remind us of the great things Minnesota has to offer. Some examples of things we might paint include a landscape of the North Shore, a Twins baseball scene, or the Stone Arch Bridge.

NORTHERN CLAY CLASS GLEE CLUB 6-7PM AT ST. LUKE’S CHURCH FEE: $15 WEEKLY ON TUESDAYS FROM 6/6— 8/22 EXCEPT 7/4 Exercise your vocal chords using a variety of singing techniques as HFC partners with MacPhail Center for Music to bring you our very own Glee Club! Classes will focus on providing tools for self-expression, selfempowerment, improved communication skills and executive functioning skills through the use of neurologic music therapy techniques, music playing, song writing and improvisation.

6:30-8PM AT CDH FEE: $20 MONDAYS 6/12, 6/26, 7/10, 7/24, 8/7, 8/21 Back by popular demand!! HFC members learn from the pros at Northern Clay Center in this interactive clay-making class! Members will create one-of-a-kind projects that will be available to take home after firing. Each week’s clay creation will be different, so you don’t want to miss out!!

HEALTH AND WELLNESS

WALKING CLUB 7-8PM AT VARIOUS LOCATIONS FEE: $10 MONDAYS 6/5, 6/19, 7/17, 7/31, 8/14 HFC’s Walking Club will spend an hour exploring various paved trails throughout the Twin Cities! All abilities are welcome for this fun opportunity to learn more about the city we live in! This summer’s walks will include: Lake Phalen, Mississippi River Boulevard, Summit Avenue, Como Lake, Crosby Farms Park

URBAN TENNIS 3:30-4:30PM AT MLK REC CENTER FEE: $15 WEEKLY ON TUESDAYS 6/6—8/22 EXCEPT 7/4 HFC partners with our friends from Urban Tennis to offer this inclusive tennis practice! Members will work on honing their tennis skills in a fun atmosphere! All abilities are welcome and encouraged to participate.

BOWLING 4:30-6PM AT CHURCH OF ST. FRANCIS FEE: $12.50 THURSDAYS 6/8, 6/22, 7/6, 7/20, 8/3, 8/17 HFC members give the pins a run for their money as they participate in open bowling during this activity. We welcome all bowlers, and have ramp and bumpers available.

MOVE AND GROOVE 10-11:30AM AT CDH

SATURDAYS 6/10, 6/24, 7/8, 7/22, 8/5, 8/19

Being healthy takes work, but that doesn’t mean it should be boring! Join your friends at this fitness class in which you will participate in relays; play games; walk or jog on the treadmill; break a sweat on the elliptical; and much more! This is a fun way to spend a Saturday with your friends while jamming to music AND exercising!

HEALTH AND WELLNESS COOKING I & II 6-7:30PM AT ST. LUKE’S CHURCH FEE: $20 COOKING I: 6/15, 7/13, 8/10 COOKING II: 6/22, 7/20, 8/17 HFC invites members to join us in the kitchen for this exciting cooking experience! Members will participate in the planning and preparation of each week’s meal, which will include an appetizer, main dish and dessert. The focus of each meal will be on learning how to prepare nutritious AND delicious meals. Learning about portion control and good decision making surrounding food choices will also be covered weekly.

GOLF 12-1PM AT HIGHLAND NATIONAL COURSE FEE: $10 WEEKLY ON SATURDAYS 6/17—8/12 The First Tee teaches HFC members the skills of putting, chipping, pitching, proper grip, stance, and ball position with a variety of different clubs. Golf experience is not necessary (and you don’t even need to have your own clubs). Core values taught include honesty, respect, and sportsmanship.

DANCE-N-MAGIC

4-5PM AT DANCE-N-MAGIC STUDIO FEE: $15 MONDAYS 6/12, 6/26, 7/17, 7/31, 8/14, 8/21 HFC explores many types of dance in this inclusive dance program held at Dance-nMagic studio! We’ll not only get to practice our dance moves but also get a fun workout in!

Bigger and better than ever! Building on last year’s success, HFC, in partnership with Allina Health, presents Get Up and Eat Healthy! This innovative health and wellness program encourages regular exercise, healthy eating choices and setting wellness goals for oneself. Who says being healthy can’t be fun?! A personal trainer will spend 45 minutes of each week with HFC members doing various exercises to fun music and alongside friends. Following the exercise, we will talk about creating attainable health goals and learn about a healthy snack. Get Up and Eat Healthy is a perfect program to make us reconsider our daily habits and build in new techniques for healthier lifestyles!

WELLNESS CONNECTION WORKSHOP SERIES 6:30-8:30PM ON WEDNESDAYS

This special workshop series is designed by Katie Thune specifically for HFC members and their caregivers to learn about healthy relationships, safety, and appropriate touch. All workshops include movement, healthy snack and instruction (discussion and activities) on the topic. HFC is excited about this innovative program. We encourage parents/caregivers to attend alongside HFC members in order to create an atmosphere of acceptance and open communication. HFC members are encouraged to register and attend on their own as well.

BOY’S NIGHT OUT TIMES, FEES AND LOCATIONS VARY MONTHLY THURSDAYS 6/8, 7/6, 8/3 FINALLY a chance for the guys to spend a night out! GIRL’S NIGHT OUT

Each month HFC hosts a Birthday Bash for our members to celebrate all of the birthdays that land in that month! There will be games, music, dance and, most importantly, dessert! It’s a party every month, and we invite YOU to join us!

There’s no doubt about it- HFC members LOVE to dance!! This summer, HFC will host one dance per month on Saturday nights that will be run by a local DJ and give members the chance to dance the night away!

FRIDAY FUN 6-8PM AT CDH FRIDAYS 6/9, 7/7, 8/4 HFC members will take charge with this new program and decide what each monthly activity will be. Held at CDH, activities will vary monthly, and include karaoke, bingo, board games, music, and more!

COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT CLUB KULANU 12:30-3:30PM AT CAMP BUTWIN WEEKLY ON WEDNESDAYS 6/21—8/9

FEE: $30

Soak up the sun this summer with HFC at Camp Butwin, located on the shores of Lake O'Brien in Eagan. This program focuses on outdoor programming tailored to participants with disabilities. Each week participants will participate in facilitated activities including, but not limited to: canoeing, paddle boating, fishing, low-ropes course teambuilding activities, horseback riding and more!

NEXT CHAPTER BOOK CLUB

10-11AM AT ST. LUKE’S CHURCH FEE: $10 WEDNESDAYS 6/7, 6/21, 7/5, 7/19, 8/2, 8/16 Next Chapter Book Club is an adaptive reading and learning experience for people of all reading levels and abilities. We meet to read, discuss and learn together. Our summer book will be “The Mouse and The Motorcycle”!

Learn the HFC card making process in this lively and upbeat activity AND gain valuable realworld business experience. ADVENTURE DAY WEEKLY ON THURSDAY AFTERNOONS—SPECIFIC TIMES, LOCATIONS AND FEES VARY WEEKLY In this fun, community-inclusion activity, HFC members will journey to various locations in the Twin Cities to gain site-specific knowledge; practice life skills such as safety awareness and/or selfadvocacy; and develop new friendships! COMMUNITY CLUB

GARDENING 10-11:30AM AT WILDER CENTER FOR AGING FEE: $15 WEDNESDAYS 6/14, 6/28, 7/12, 7/26, 8/9, 8/23 As HFC members visit monthly, we will learn what it takes to plant, grow and maintain a vegetable and flower garden throughout the summer. We keep them going all summer long on the beautiful raised bed gardens of Wilder. Members will learn what it takes to have a green thumb!

YOGA 10-11AM AT TULA YOGA & WELLNESS FEE: $12 MONDAYS 6/5, 6/19, 7/10, 7/24, 8/7, 8/21

NOODLES & COMPANY 12:30-2:30PM FEE: $10 MONDAYS 6/26, 7/10, 7/24, 8/7, 8/21 Members gain real-world job experience as they work together to wrap napkins around utensils for the Highland Park Noodles and Company. This is an invaluable learning experience for people of all abilities.

HFC members exercise with certified yoga instructors in HFC’s very own yoga class! All ability levels are welcome to this class that focuses on the mind and body. Members will work on balance, stretching and calm breathing to achieve overall mindfulness goals.

FEED MY STARVING CHILDREN 10-11:30AM AT FMSC IN EAGAN MONDAYS 6/12, 7/17, 8/14

FEE: $10

HFC members gain volunteer experience and give back! They help by wrapping and packaging boxed food for our friends in need who live abroad.

MACPHAIL MUSIC 10:30-11:30AM AT ST. LUKE’S CHURCH

WEEKLY ON TUESDAYS 6/6—8/29 EXCEPT 7/4 HFC partners with MacPhail Center for Music to bring you our daytime Music Therapy activity led by Board Certified Music Therapist Stephanie Kimmes. This will be a fun, engaging and interactive music therapy activity! A variety of techniques will be used to provide opportunities to learn to identify and express emotions in an appropriate way, give and receive support, and develop selfconfidence and leadership skills.

COMMUNITY CLUB DODGE NATURE CENTER 1-2PM AT DODGE NATURE CENTER MONDAYS 6/12, 7/17, 8/14

GLUTEN-FREE COOKING 12:30-2:30PM AT ST. LUKE’S CHURCH TUESDAYS 6/13, 6/27, 7/18, 8/1, 8/15

You’d be surprised at how many delicious, creative recipes there are with absolutely NO GLUTEN in them! This cooking class is a collaborative effort in which members will work together to plan, prepare and enjoy a meal that is 100% gluten free. Don’t miss out on the chance to learn this exciting new cooking technique.

CARD MAKING 12:30-2:30PM AT ST. NATURE PAINTING 10-11:30AM AT ST. LUKE’S CHURCH

THURSDAYS 6/15, 6/29, 7/13, 7/27, 8/10, 8/24

In this class, we will create textural nature paintings and spend time painting outdoors with friends! We will create paintings that feature flowers, bugs, trees, and animals. We will paint with acrylic and watercolor paint, but our paintings will also include textural materials, like beads, string, sticks, recycled cardboard, and sand. The added materials will make the paintings 3-dimensional and fun to touch. We can't wait to be creative with you!

HIGHLAND FRIENDSHIP CLUB POLICIES •

Members who make a cancellation 48 hours in advance or more will receive a credit that may be used at a later date. This credit can now be carried over to the next semester. Late cancellations and no-shows will not be given a credit.



In the event that HFC cannot hold a scheduled program due to unforeseen circumstances, programs will be rescheduled whenever possible. If rescheduling is not possible, members will be issued an electronic (email) reimbursement – Program Credit. Credits can be applied toward the payment of any HFC programs.



If you register for a program, you are responsible for the payment of the registration fee.



Program payment should occur: online via credit/debit card or via mail.

Sign-in Policy: Member safety is our highest priority



HFC members must be signed in at every program. Parents/caregivers must sign their member in on the sign-in sheet and leave a phone number that they can be reached at during the program.



After the program, parents/caregivers must come into the building to pick up their member.

Medication Administration and Personal Care



HFC employees and volunteers are prohibited from providing hands-on assistance with the activities of eating, toileting, and lifting



HFC employees are also prohibited from administering any medication to HFC members.

Most HFC activities occur in the Art Room located at 529 Hamline Ave S. Each program’s classroom will be listed on the registration page online and in the registration confirmation email. To access the Art Room: Enter building on east side/Hamline Ave. side via the Susan and John Morrison Fine Arts Building. This building is located right in front of the circular roundabout driveway. Off-street parking is available. Look for HFC staff and volunteers at the door located in the roundabout.

ST. LUKE’S CHURCH 1807 Field Avenue, St. Paul, MN 55116 Activities are held in the Great Room, the kitchen, or classrooms at St. Luke’s Church. Plentiful parking is available in the lot on the north side of the building.
