We understand that deciding what to do next is always difficult, so we would like to give you the opportunity to sample some of your options during the summer. Our activities are aimed at people who: •• Are aged 16-18 years old (including school leavers) •• Are a Year 10 student (for Year 10 Choices sessions only) •• Want to go to college but are unsure of what it involves or what courses to do •• Are generally unsure of what to do

The Summer Scheme offers taster sessions in a range of exciting subject areas. You will have the option of two different programmes. You are expected to attend the full programme to ensure you have the opportunity to sample a whole range of courses. Attendees at the Summer Scheme will receive a travel pass and lunch voucher. The Summer Scheme is not available to current applicants holding a place for September 2016. Other activities may be available for applicants and information will be sent to you over the summer.

YEAR 10 CHOICES Tuesday 12th July & Wednesday 13th July Two days of taster sessions will be available to all Year 10 students who want to try their hand at practical courses at Bradford College.

There will be a range of sessions on offer including: Catering, Travel & Tourism, Early Years, Health & Care, Music, Construction, Public Services, ICT Sport, Art & Design (Fine Art), Motor Vehicle, Performing Arts, Business, Law, Hairdressing & Beauty Therapy, Art & Design (Fashion, Textiles & 3D Design), Creative Media, Art & Design (Graphic Design/Photography), Science, Engineering and Games Development.

GET INVOLVED THIS SUMMER

SHORT COURSES Performing Arts This one day workshop will explore movement in performance techniques. It is essential, that as an actor or dancer, you have the basic understanding of movement work to be a multi-skilled performer. You will have the opportunity to work as part of a group to explore, create and develop movement in a workshop based setting. You will learn how spatial awareness, dynamics and relationship building are important principles when devising movement pieces.

Music This workshop will teach you about the different elements of ensemble musicianship. You will be shown how to read basic music notation and perform it as an ensemble. You will also have the opportunity to explore the approaches to improvisation on a chosen musical instrument. Some existing ability/experience on an instrument is required for you to benefit fully from this workshop. Art & Design This two day short course, delivered in our School of Arts & Media, will teach you several different techniques giving you the exciting opportunity to produce your own artwork. SHORT COURSES VTCT Level 1 Award in Nail Art Application (Accredited) This qualification will enable you to design and apply basic nail art treatment using stick on transfers, some nail art paints and adornments such as glitter. You will also learn about health, safety and hygiene when providing nail treatments. VTCT Level 1 Award in Twisting & Plaiting Hair (Accredited) This qualification has been specifically designed to develop your practical skills in the intricate work of twisting and plaiting hair. SHORT COURSES Mechanical Engineering This short course will teach you the techniques involved in making a thread clamp, including fitting, drilling and tapping. During the course you will have the opportunity to work in our state-of-the-art workshops at our Trinity Green campus. TV Studio Production & Creative Media You will learn how to operate equipment in a fully functioning three camera television studio and gain a good understanding of how a multi-camera set up works. These techniques will allow you to set-up and record a short piece of footage and use Adobe Premiere Software to edit the footage. City & Guilds in Basic Construction Skills (Accredited) This qualification will enable you to explore a range of basic construction skills including; Brickwork, Carpentry, Electrical & Joinery, Painting & Decorating, Plastering & Plumbing. The two-week course is ideal for young people who want to go into the construction industry but haven’t had the opportunity to try out the range of trades available. SHORT COURSES ICT – Games Development An exciting two day introduction to the professional games development process. You will learn about the methods and process of games developers within industry and the theory of how games are displayed on our screens. You will experience the basics of 3D modelling, texturing, level design and games engine skills using industry approved software. You will follow the same production pipeline as games developers within industry to produce your own game levels.

ICT – Cyber-security This short course will introduce you to some of the techniques used by hackers to destroy and steal sensitive data and how we can work to avoid these attacks.
