Summer Holidays 2018 Children’s Centre Activities

Description of sessions In Borehamwood, Potters Bar & Shenley, St Albans South & St Albans West. Antenatal Breastfeeding Workshop Pregnant mums & partners Come to this session to find out about breastfeeding -the basics, the benefits, myth-busting and expressing, helping to prepare you for life as a breastfeeding family. Baby Group/ Baby and Me 0-12 months and crawlers A chance for babies under one to play with lots of different toys and also a chance for pregnant mums to meet other pregnant mums. Get advice on introducing solid foods. Health Visitors come to some sessions to give advice on what to do when your child is ill. Baby Massage Mums & Dads of 2- 8 mths old babies Learn to massage your baby. Find out how it helps with their sleeping, digestion and colic. Get to know other mums and ask for help and advice if you want it. 5 week course. There is a £20 charge per course Baby, Sing and Play 0-12 months A fun, interactive session for babies and their parents/carers, with rhymes, singing, actions and tummy time. An opportunity to find out how your relationship with your baby affects their brain development, and to make new friends within a relaxed sensory environment. Beginner Biking A one hour session to help encourage your child to ride their bike without stabilisers. Parents/Carers will need to be on hand to support their child/ren. Stabilisers to be removed before the session. Born to Move 2 – 3 years Get involved and get fit with this moving and singing class for children and parents/carers. Breastfeeding Support Group Pregnant & Mums Feel free to join our drop-in sessions and enjoy a friendly and relaxed environment. Meet other mums and receive support on breastfeeding from Health Visitors and our Breastfeeding Champions. All mums who are breastfeeding are welcome even if they do not need support. Within this session there is Tongue Tie Assessment by appointment only please ring 020 8359 8520. Breastfeeding Peer Support A friendly and relaxed drop-in where you will meet other breastfeeding mums and trained Breastfeeding Champions. They can give you help and advice about feeding problems or questions you might have. They can also put you in touch with other services if you want. Breast Intentions New Mums Feel free to join our drop-in sessions and enjoy a friendly and relaxed environment. You will meet other mums and receive support from Health staff. Breastfeeding Champions Pregnant and Mums We have trained Breastfeeding Champions on our staff who can offer information and support and reassurance with feeding concerns. Additionally, they are on hand to make sure new mums are signposted to other appropriate/relevant services if requested or needed. Child Health Clinic The Child Health Clinic is run by the local Health Visiting Team. It is a chance for you to get help and advice on a wide range of family health issues.

Forest Fun Aimed for Children 2yrs – 4yrs We are passionate about inspiring children’s imaginations while also helping parents and their children to have lots of fun together. Children will be able to explore the outdoor environment in a number of different ways (weather permitting) please remember your sun screen and a hat and have a spare pair of wellies available. Introduction to Solid Foods Talk 3-6 months What are the signs that your baby is ready for solid food? Find out and get advice on how to introduce them to your baby. Also find out what foods not to give your baby as per current NHS guidelines. Run by Children’s Centre staff. Library Self-Service Parents/carers and children aged 0-5 years Come and read a book with your child in the library. Borrow a book to take home using the self-service counter (you must be a member of the library to do this). Children’s Centre staff open the library so parents and carers can use it. Make and Take Spa Well Being Session Adults Make your own Hand Scrubs, Body Creams, Lip Balm ….then take them home! Using Natural Ingredients and Essential Oils. Only 10 spaces! Messy Play 0-5yrs Come and enjoy a range of messy play activities with your child. The sessions are designed to enable children to explore processes, media and materials and to make new things as a result. The activities will be provided and co-coordinated by a member of the Children’s Centre Team. Please dress your children suitably for messy sessions “Despite appearances, messy play can make an enormous contribution to babies’ and young children’s cognitive and creative development” – Early years foundation stage National Play Day Events Families with children 0-5 These events are to celebrate National Play Day. Come and enjoy creative and outdoor activities in the Children’s Centre and garden. These events are open to families living in the Children’s Centre areas only. Parent Forum Fundraising Events Families with children 0-5 As these are fundraising events there is a charge of £1 per child. School Ready – Stay and Play 18 mths to 5 years A one off Stay and Play session where the focus will be on activities that will support your child’s transition into pre-school / school. Activities will include practising taking jumpers on and off, mark making, road safety and lots more. Come and get some Top Tips from the Children’s Centre staff. Speech & Language Assessment Clinic Drop In 2 years 6months Are you worried about your child’s speech and/or language development? You can talk to a Speech and Language Therapist who will assess your child, give advice and agree a follow up plan if needed. Sports Day Come and join in with fun games and activities that encourage your child’s physical skills.

Stay & Play 0-5 years A fun-filled session which brings together all your children’s favourite activities. You will be encouraged to play with your children. Includes free nutritious snacks for children. Please dress your children in old clothes Stay, Play and Learn Together 0-5 years A session to benefit children’s development with opportunities to develop their agility, balance and co-ordination, providing excitement and challenge with music, movement and brightly coloured soft play equipment. The purpose of this session is for you to play and interact with your child/children in a safe and stimulating environment. It is also a great opportunity for you and your child to make friends with families in your local community. The session includes a nutritious snack-time for the children. Please wear comfortable clothing. Story Sacks 0-4 years A fun story time -children and parents will get to use puppets and props while listening to popular children’s stories Stories & More 2 – 4 years Share fun stories in a different way. Watch and take part in making some of your favorite stories come alive. Stroller Strength Parents with children in strollers This is like your normal outdoor boot camps but you use your buggies and your little ones in them! Squats, push ups and burpees, mixed with running and competitive games all with the buggy in tow! You’ll enjoy a whole body work out. Also the trained Instructor will show you how to get the best out of the outside play equipment in the Park. Please bring a hand towel and drink of water Through the Garden 0 - 5 years Come and join us in our Community Garden at the BECC where there will be a variety of physical activities on offer and water play activities for your little ones to explore. Under 1’s Play & Stay Come along to this session for parents and carers with newborn babies. There will be lots of fun activities, new and entertaining nursery rhymes and group discussions. Zumba Mumba 0 – 4 years Come join the fun with Zumba Mumba - a baby and parent dance class, there is no need to arrange childcare to get your groove on - bring your babies with you so they can enjoy the music and movement too. Suitable for babies and toddlers.
