The OMA is seeking a Community Engagement Assistant to support programs of the OMA that further our goal to strengthen skills, knowledge, innovation and excellence in museum work in Ontario. The Community Engagement Assistant will work with the OMA secretariat to plan and deliver Certificate in Museum Studies courses, the 2018 Annual Conference, and the Awards of Excellence program. The Community Engagement Assistant will be involved in planning, designing and coordinating communications for all programs, liaising with program participants and tradeshow partners, supporting committee meetings, planning logistics for program delivery, and acting as the primary contact for the Group of Ontario Emerging Museum Professionals (GOEMP) and Conference volunteers.

This position provides an opportunity to work with several different programs and gain exposure to all aspects of the OMA’s daily operations. The Assistant will have the opportunity to meet and network with professionals in the heritage sector across Ontario through interaction with members and program participants, committee members, partner organizations, volunteers, and other stakeholders. The position includes the opportunity for the Assistant’s attendance at the OMA Annual Conference in October 2018 following the completion of the placement in order to deliver Conference programming, as well as a free one-year membership to the OMA.

The Intern will leverage the participation of the Ontario Network of Regional Museum Networks (ONRMN), as well as the Group of Ontario Emerging Museum Professionals (GOEMP) to assist in identifying member interests. The Intern will also conduct a user-experience evaluation of the member portal, and identify strategies and improve navigability, member awareness of resources, and visitor engagement on the site and will research special interest groups and committees in Ontarian and Canadian cultural heritage organizations in order to assist in the development of special interest groups for OMA members, for example for retired museum professionals or museum educators. They will support the work of the Membership and Administration Coordinator by liaising with Ontario museum professionals, developing and implementing a user experience evaluation of the ‘Discover Ontario Museums’ public website and listing, assisting with mailings and membership campaigns, updating the member database, and providing customer service by email and phone. The incumbent will be provided a supportive environment in which to build skills, experience and knowledge in a range of duties related to museum administration, including processing membership renewals and event registration, taking and transcribing minutes, drafting meeting agendas and coordinating meetings, processing cheques and invoices, preparing materials for member mailings, and developing strategies to improve the OMA public website to better serve members and their audiences. Particular focus for this job is event planning and coordination for member events, workshops and community engagement and assisting the OMA with the Annual Conference. The Cultural Administration Intern will have the opportunity to meet and network with professionals in the heritage sector through interaction with members and program participants, committee members, partner organizations and attendance at the OMA conference in October 2018.

The OMA is seeking a Conference Program Officer whose work will be integral to ensuring that the participation of Toronto's heritage institutions in Conference activities and parallel programming will be leveraged to their full potential. The Conference Program Officer will work closely with the Professional Development Program Manager, the OMA Conference Program Committee, the Local Arrangements Committee, City of Toronto Museum Services, OMA members and Conference partners to develop high-quality programming that will showcase the diversity of Ontario's museums and encourage skills- and network-development in an informal learning environment.
