Mar 26, 2017 - 2017. RACE DESCRIPTIONS. The Fancy Dress Theme, selected by the organising committee for this year's Fun
DATE: SUNDAY March 26th 2017 RACE DESCRIPTIONS The Fancy Dress Theme, selected by the organising committee for this year’s Fun Run Events is ‘Easter’. A prize will be awarded for the best dressed participant from any of the 3 events described below. The Orienteering Event will be designed with ‘Easter Bunny’ in mind! 5 KM FUN RUN

This event is an `out and back’ race. The race covers a mix of paved, grassed and gravel surfaces. The grade of the course is described as flat and easy. Because of the surface changes, it is not necessarily wheelchair or pram friendly. Participants are urged not to stray onto the road surface. There are no road closures for this event. Please follow the directions of the race officials. The race will start at Cunningham Park and proceed south over the Gwydir Bridge, Halls Creek crossing. Participants stay on the footpath that travels under the bridge and onto the Finch Street footpath (this section is paved). From Finch Street participants will turn right into Junction Street and keeping to the right hand side grassed nature strip they will follow the road into Keera Street. At this point the race heads towards the Gwydir River and then west following the river bank until they reach the eastern end of the Bingara Golf Course. Participants enter the golf course via the gate at the first hole and follow the fence line on the northern boundary. This section of the course includes short hilly undulations. At the western end of the golf course competitors will do a U-turn around the 5th hole, returning down the centre of the course, past the BBQ area and toilet facilities, where there will be race officials and water station. Continuing down the centre of the course and exiting via the eastern gate at the first hole, the participants will retrace their steps to the start/finish line at Cunningham Park. Prizes will be awarded to the 1st 2nd and 3rd male and female runners.

ORIENTEERING RACE Remember: The Orienteering Event will be designed with ‘Easter Bunny’ in mind! Starting at Cunningham Park the orienteering race is a `family of sports’ that requires navigational skills using a map or instructions to navigate from point to point. Part maths, part geography, part treasure hunt. Participants are given a specially prepared orienteering map and instructions, which they use to find control points. This race will cover a mixture of paved and grass surfaces. The grade of the course is described as flat and easy. Because of the surface changes, it is not necessarily wheelchair or pram friendly. Prizes will be awarded to first individual adult (16+), the first individual child (under 16) and the first family (2 parents, 1 child minimum).

4 X 500M RELAY RACE The 4 x 500m relay race will be held in Cunningham Park. Each team will consist of 4 runners, with each team member completing a 500m segment, totalling a 2km distance. The race will be on a grassed surface which could accommodate wheelchairs or prams. NB This is a targeted FUN EVENT. Participants in the 5 km and Orienteering Event are also encouraged to form teams for the Relay.
