PLAQUE OF COMMENDATION (GOLD) Suntec Convention & Exhibition Centre Nominated by National Trades Union Congress

In 2012, Suntec Singapore went through a modernisation programme to redevelop its facility over a period of eight months. During this time, employees were sent for training and exchange programmes with partnering hoteliers for upskilling courses, keeping them engaged over the lull period. There were no layoffs or reduction in salaries and that have proved positive for the organization, with a boost in morale and retention rate when they re-opened in 2013. Suntec Singapore also explored the Age Management Grant under WorkPro, which has benefitted 47.5 per cent of its employees. In subsequent Collective Agreement (CA) negotiations, there were enhancements to the benefits of re-employed staff such as bumping up their annual leave to a maximum of 18 days instead of resetting it. Believing in the importance of employee welfare, Suntec Singapore has rolled out numerous programmes such as lunch talks about mental wellbeing and partnering the Health Promotion Board for physical fitness activities held in the centre. They have also enhanced their flexible benefit scheme to include health screenings. In the most recent CA negotiations, Suntec Singapore increased the scope of representation to include executives, senior executives and assistant managers. The organisation has also rolled out a flexible work arrangement where employees can come in to work anytime between 7:30am and 9:30am and correspondingly leave between 5:00pm and 7:00pm. This incentivises employees with families to come to work early so that they can go home early to spend time with their loved ones. Through the years, Suntec Singapore has remain committed to fostering stronger union-management relations. Together with Building Construction And Timber Industries Employees’ Union (BATU), they organise joint briefings, communication sessions as well as staff engagement events. They frequently engage the union for feedback on important issues such as proposed changes to company policies and ensure there is a proper grievance process for their employees. Suntec Singapore also contributes annually to BATU’s branch welfare fund which allows them to organise union activities. - End -
