Berks County Annie Sullivan Award ★

Dale Bond, Head Custodian at Kutztown Elementary, was presented the award April 4. ★ The award is named after Helen Keller’s persistence. ★ Recognizes an educator each year who goes above and beyond for children with special needs.

Although the KHS students were not chosen as the winning team, ESAB was very impressed by their hard work. ★ Each student was awarded their own personal welding helmet. ★ Students expressed how much they learned through the experience. ★ Thank you for all the encouragement and help throughout the voting stage.

On April 11, sixteen students from Hill Freedman Academy visited Kutztown and engaged in art and multi-media activities. Results include a collaborative art project and a public service announcement. Thank you to Ben Hoffman, Josh Chambers, and Tom Miller for participating in the activities.

Odyssey of the Mind State Competition on April 7 ★

KHS Problem 4 Team- 2nd Place overall (advancing to World Finals at Iowa State University on May 23-26) ○ Team members are Julia Mace, Nathan Hayduk, Emma Kyle, Kiana Haring, Madi Wolf, Porter Holt, and Asher Cooper. Coach is Seth Noggle. ○ Their structure held 875 pounds with an outstanding showing in the spontaneous problem solving.

Odyssey of the Mind, con’t. State Competition on April 7 ★

KES Problem 4 Team- 7th Place overall ○ Team members are Klara Schnore, Egan Sewall, Eli Schlappich, Trent Simmons, Jack Moriarity, Ramona Slabonik. Coaches are Annie Schnore, Scott Hand, and KU student Alli Britt. ○ Their structure held 185 pounds with a fantastic performance in spontaneous problem solving earning them 2nd place in the problem solving portion of the competition.
