Swimming and Water Safety Life Saving Victoria Knowledge of swimming and water safety can reduce a child’s drowning risk and provide them with skills that may one day save a life. In addition, swimming and water safety skills have demonstrated benefits on child health in terms of social, psychological and physical well-being. It is important to note that swimming and water safety is a compulsory component of the Victorian Curriculum F-10 which requires swimming and water safety to be taught as part of Health and Physical Education (HPE). The HPE curriculum includes four focus areas which have specific reference to swimming and water safety. These are; Fundamental movement skills, Safety, lifelong physical activities and challenge and adventure activities. For details on the HPE curriculum, please click HERE. Victorian Water Safety Certificate The Victorian Water Safety Certificate is a Victorian Government initiative, which describes specific competencies that should be achieved by the end of primary school.



Education from Anywhere Resources Education from Anywhere is a free online resource portal, which was developed by LSV to enable school teachers and communities to access a wide range of water safety and emergency response resources, anytime and from anywhere. The portal contains cross-curriculum lesson plans for Foundation (Prep) to Year 10, Fact Sheets, Videos and much more!



Education from Anywhere eNewsletter The eNewsletter is sent by LSV once a school term and is a great resource to update school teachers and communities on water safety programs, resources and exciting events.



Water Smart Award The Water Smart Award is a Royal Life Saving program that teaches Years 4 to 6 children to be aware of dangers in a range of aquatic environments, promotes safe behaviours around water, and gives them the basic knowledge of how to respond to an emergency situation.



Bronze e-Lifesaving Royal Life Saving’s Bronze e-Lifesaving is an interactive online program that challenges and engages secondary school students on issues such as risk-taking behaviour, peer influences and alcohol consumption when recreating in and around water.



Everyday Lifesaver App Transforming the way LSV teaches water safety education, the Everyday Lifesaver App was launched in October 2015. The App uses gamification to make learning water safety, emergency response and CPR more engaging for upper primary and secondary school students.



Sink or Swim (SorS) The Sink or Swim program teaches students about water safety from the expertise of a lifesaver. The interactive one hour program empowers students of all ages to keep themselves and others safe in a range of aquatic environments.



Open Water Learning Experience -OWLE The OWLE program creates Everyday Lifesavers out of Victorian students, by teaching practical water safety activities to make learning personal survival skills and emergency response fun and engaging. The Full Day OWLE Program is also an endorsed provider of Sporting Schools.



Swim and Survive The Swim and Survive program is a national swimming and water safety initiative of the Royal Life Saving Society that seeks to increase swimming and water safety skills of Australian children in order to prevent drowning and increase participation in safe aquatic activity.
