What Can OSTPDX Do

LRCA (Legislatively Referred Constitutional Amendment) to Allow Municipal Bond Revenue to Fund Privately Owned Affordable Housing Amendment S-19 – Robert (Rob) Wagner (D, incumbent) vs. David Poulson (R)

Yes

Support

-Measure will give green light to expected Portland bond measure to provide financing for affordable housing through public-private partnerships (i.e., not city-owned) -Measure to amend state constitution to permit this kind of bond measure was referred to voters by legislature with overwhelming support

This is clearly supported by all Ds and most Rs in the Oregon House and Senate. Therefore, unlikely to become a contentious issue and require much of our group’s time or resources. Could look into this again once more organizations have made their support known.

-Soude was Governor Brown’s general counsel before she appointed him to the bench in July 2017 - Soude handled civil and criminal cases for 9 years before joining the Governor’s staff -Soude is opposed by Bob Callahan, a criminal defense attorney, who cites Souede’s lack of trial court experience and “the manner of his appointment.”

Clackamas, Washington

Recommend vote for her and support if live in her district. Question how much influence we can have this election. If we have enough resources we can be more involved.

We can help Souede’s campaign by raising funds, talking up his candidacy, and possibly even doing some canvassing. Campaigns for judgeships are much more sedate affairs than for partisan offices. Candidates can neither talk about pending issues nor raise money. We can organize a “meet-and-greet” which the candidate will attend. He can talk about himself and his career but cannot be in the room when requests for donations are made. Will be on Nov ballot Judge Watkins’ campaign manager, Jillian Schoene, is very excited about the possibility of receiving our support.
