It’s people like you that inspire us. When you start a workplace team, you are joining hundreds of other Team Captains across Canada who are dedicated to making a long-term impact on the lives of the most vulnerable people in the world. By taking part in the World Partnership Walk you are demonstrating what it means

six easy steps
to build a successful workplace team.

Lay The Foundation
Before you start building a workplace team, it’s a good idea to get the support of your company. The best way to make that happen is to have a conversation with your manager. You can use the email template, Approach Leadership, to introduce the World Partnership Walk and book a date to discuss it further. Personalize the email and make your own voice come through.
What is Aga Khan Foundation Canada (AKFC)? AKFC is a global development organization, working in Asia and Africa to find sustainable solutions to the complex problems causing global poverty. Established in 1980, AKFC is a registered Canadian charity and an organization of the worldwide Aga Khan Development Network.
Print out the World Partnership Walk Information Sheet to leave behind with your manager. Here are some key things to relay during your conversation:
Personalize it. This is a great opportunity to add your own message. If you have a personal connection to the World Partnership Walk or AKFC, tell your story. As Canadians, the Walk is a chance to put our values of peace, prosperity and equality into action. You can also reference the World Partnership Walk Information Sheet and the Impact Report.
What is the World Partnership Walk? The World Partnership Walk is the largest fundraising event for global development in Canada. • Since 1985, it has raised over $100 million for AKFC’s development programs in Asia and Africa.
How can my workplace benefit? The World Partnership Walk provides employees with a chance to develop key skills that will help accelerate their growth and inspire them. Across Canada, hundreds of workplaces have seen the benefits of encouraging their employees to step forward:

Register And Create Your Team
Go to the Registration page and create a team. Be creative with your team name and description. If you already have a few team members this can be a fun exercise defining why you are walking.

Grow Your Team
Building a team is a valuable way to network, lead the way, and collectively contribute to positive global change. Here are some ways to recruit your coworkers: • Announce your team to your coworkers by sending an email through My Fundraising or use the email template Announce Your Team. • Put up the Team Poster throughout your workplace. • Plan a short presentation to inspire and invite people to learn more, join or support your team. Download the Lunch & Learn. • Have fun with this! Talk with your team about what contributing to a better world means and the reasons you are all walking.
Here are some benefits to share with your coworkers for signing up to a workplace team: • Develop key skills to help accelerate their career and position them as forward thinkers. • Make a difference in the lives of people living in some of the poorest parts of the world. • Expand their professional and social network. • Build their brand as a talented professional who is passionate about making a positive social impact.

Raise Funds With Your Team Members
This is where the real opportunity lies to make an impact and help others. Raising funds is a great way to get family, friends and coworkers involved in the fight to end global poverty. Here are some tips to get you started:
SET A GOAL
CELEBRATE YOUR TEAM
SHARE YOUR PROGRESS
It helps to set a goal you feel is manageable while also trying to push your limits. Consider how many members are on your team (e.g. to raise $2000 /5 members = $400 each).
Send out bi-weekly email updates to your team as you work towards achieving your goal. This is a great opportunity to recognize a team member who received a large donation or held a fundraising event.
Send an email to your office at the start of your campaign, half way and one week before the event sharing updates and reminding them to support you through donating to your team page.

Show your gratitude and send a thank you email to donors.

Celebrate On Walk Day
Anyone can walk! Invite your coworkers, supporters, friends and family to join your team on walk day. It is a family-friendly event including team games and team pictures. Enjoy celebrating a job well done!

Take It To The Next Level
There are lots of different ways your company can support you and your team. Our team at the World Partnership Walk is happy to be part of the conversations around corporate involvement and sponsorship. Here are a few options to start with: LUNCH & LEARN Host a Lunch & Learn to share the story of AKFC and World Partnership Walk with your coworkers.
BRAND YOUR TEAM There are many options for your company to have a presence at the Walk. For example, making corporate team shirts are an excellent way to show your company’s commitment.
COMPANY MATCHING Some companies have gift-matching and/or volunteer matching programs. Gift-matching programs can double charitable contributions made or raised by their employees. For more information click here.
MULTIPLE TEAMS Suggest forming more than one team in your workplace (by department, floor, etc.). Within large organizations this is a good way to involve more people and encourage healthy competition.
