PURPOSE

The purpose of this Bulletin is to provide information concerning the reformatting of the 2011-2012 Ontario Provincial Short Track Championships in order to meet the requirements of the Speed Skating Canada’s Canada East and Canadian Short Track Championships. The formats of the SSC meets are contained in the relevant SSC Competitions Bulletin which can be accessed at: http://www.speedskating.ca/client/cmsUploads/speed_skating/File/Competitions/Bulletins/COMPETITION_BULLETIN_v02_20112012.pdf The format of the SSC Championships is similar in many ways to the 2010-2011 with some minor changes as a result of the further implementation of SSC’s Long Term Participation and Skater Development Program and comments received following last season’s championship meets. The format includes the use of the 100m track for younger skaters, different distances when using the 100m track and new format races. In order for OSSA to properly select skaters to represent Ontario at the Canada East and Canadian Short Track Championships and to prepare those skaters for the competitions, the OSSA Technical Committee has reformatted the Ontario Short Track Provincial Championships to incorporate the 100m track and the distances that the skaters will be skating at the SSC meets. The Bulletin will also be posted on OSSA’s website at www.ontariospeedskating.ca.

Questions about the content of this Technical Bulletin may be directed to Jacqueline DesChenes, Executive Director, at [email protected] or 705-652-9490.

CANADIAN SHORT TRACK AGE CLASS CHAMPIONSHIPS AND EASTERN CANADIAN REGIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS SELECTION CRITERIA

Eligibility to participate as a member of an Ontario team at any of the SSC Short Track Championships will be based on the criteria set by SSC for the event in question. While SSC will establish the primary criteria for the eligibility of any skater participating in the various championships, the primary selection criteria to be used by OSSA for the selection will be based on the points standing of the skaters at the conclusion of the Ontario Provincial Short Track Championships. Pre-qualification, for the Intermediate and Senior age categories can occur for skaters who have a national ranking from the National Short Track Trials. These skaters must confirm their desire to participate in the Canadian Short Track Age Class Championships prior to the registration deadline for the Ontario Provincial Short Track Championships by submitting a Bye Application for consideration. Skaters from the Open Category will be broken out into their respective age classes following the meet – Junior B, Junior A and NeoSenior – and then ranked within their own age class based on their standing in the Open Category.
