Technical Service Bulletin 70 Driver door trim panel requires replacement

Transaction No.: 2022154/1 Release date: Dec 16, 2009

Condition • •

The front interior door trim panel on the driver’s side is being replaced. The vehicle has an alarm inclination sensor disable switch in the rear edge of the door trim panel.

Tip: This bulletin does not justify the replacement of a driver door panel for any reason. This bulletin is only supplemental for when a driver door panel is replaced. Technical Background Any replacement of the interior door trim panel on the driver’s side must be reinforced with adhesive before the new part is installed on the vehicle. There is potential for the door to become weak when cutting out the new hole for the alarm switch. The switch disables the inclination sensor for the alarm system in the event the vehicle is towed. The techniques used to cut the access hole for the switch can vary. To ensure the new door panel does not form a crack over time, the adhesive must be used to strengthen the new door panel. The switch was only standard equipment on MY 2005-2006 A6 and S6 vehicles, thus this procedure does not apply to newer C6 A6 vehicles. Production Solution None. Service 1. Ensure the following conditions are met: • • •

You have set aside enough time to allow the adhesive to dry for one hour. You have obtained the proper adhesive. You are working with a new interior door trim panel.

The hole for the alarm switch has been cut out of the door panel.

Figure 1. Access hole for alarm switch. 2. Place towels or foam on a flat work surface to protect the finished side of the door panel from scratches and dings during this repair. 3. Place the door panel on the towels or foam with the finished side down so you may work on the unfinished side. 4. Using the VAS 5155 applicator, apply adhesive D 180 KU1 A1 in the area indicated by the arrows in Figure 3.

Note: Do not apply too much adhesive near the hole for the switch; otherwise, the switch may not fit into the hole after the adhesive has dried.
