An after school Greek language and culture program is offered at the Elsternwick campus. Classes are on Monday afternoons from 5.00pm to 8.00pm. Zenon Education Centre is accredited by the Department of Education and has been attracting students for its modern methodologies and innovative approaches in teaching Greek as a second language and providing immersion in the Greek culture. A new beginner’s class is also available to students without background knowledge in Greek. It is not only fun to play, but has many educational benefits, such as improved memory, numerical skills, problem solving, creativity, concentration and confidence. Learn tricks and traps to beat your Dad! Hear stories about famous chess players, solve chess puzzles and of course, have fun while playing plenty of chess. Trophies are presented to the top players at the end of every term. Students will have the opportunity to represent Wesley at inter-school tournaments. Limelight Drama is a performing arts program for ages 3-18 conducted by Olivia Connolly, an actor, writer and producer. She is a founding member of the award- winning theatre company Red Stitch. The program teaches acting terminology and skills, dance choreography and singing. Play building is used where students use their imaginations to create a narrative within a framework and to create characters. There is a performance at the end of every term for parents to attend. Limelight Drama develops confidence, creativity, empathy, social skills, aids in literacy and is a lot of fun! Students are guided by highly experienced teachers who have years of rigorous training. The teacher follows the motto “thoughts do not make a person, their attitude and actions define them.” Following this motto, students are taught confidence and self awareness. As this confidence grows, an appreciation of traditional karate as a method of personal development begins, where respect, patience, tolerance, temperance, creativity and courage are a must.

The Young Engineers Lego Challenge is an enrichment program for children between the ages of 5 – 12 years. We build motorised Lego models using Lego bricks and Lego Technic in each class. Students are taught basic concepts of mathematics and science, while explaining the principles behind the working of the model. We build educational models like amusement park rides, vehicles, buildings and cranes. Students are provided with Lego kits, motor, batteries and visual instructions and we build new models each week. This Introduction to Magic course offers Years 4 to 6 students with the opportunity to get a taste of what the Melbourne Magic Academy Discover Magic course offers. Through games, practice and performance, students will learn some amazing skills. Each of the four weeks will present students with a new magic effect to learn and notes to take home, meaning that students finish the four week program with not only increased confidence and performance skills, but also a mini magic kit worth $30.

St Kilda Road: Junior School Gymnastics

The Wesley Lions Gymnastics program caters for primary aged children from Prep upwards. Classes range from beginner/recreational to advanced/competitive in general gymnastics, men’s and women’s artistic gymnastics and cheerleading. All classes teach basic to complex movement patterns, with emphasis on spatial and body awareness allowing children to develop confidence in their ability to control their bodies while enhancing their coordination, strength and flexibility. Classes are held in the gymnasium at Wesley College, St Kilda Road and is considered one of the best training venues in Victoria. The gymnasium is fully set up with competition standard equipment, including a sprung floor, in-ground trampoline, a foam pit and a variety of learning aids. Wesley Junior Basketball is an additional competitive sporting option for current or enrolled Wesley students from Years 1 - 6. Teams of between 6 – 9 players are formed at each year level and can be single sex or mixed. Teams compete in the Playball Competition on Tuesdays (Years 4 – 6) or Fridays (Years 1 – 4). They also compete in the Port Phillip Basketball Association competition on Saturday afternoons. Wesley Junior Basketball relies on parent support for team managers and coaches. There are over 18 teams and 200 players so teams fill quickly. Additional Sessions Additional team basketball coaching sessions are also available for Junior School students before school to practise key skills, rules, strategies and sportsmanship. Sessions run once a week on a set day from 7.30am - 8.10am at a cost of $40 for Term 1 (8 weeks) and there’s no need to change out of the school uniform. The sessions are prepaid before the term begins. Entire team commitments are strongly encouraged to build on team play. Registration forms are available at Reception. Important Information Enrolments

Please ensure that you have registered your child before they attend any After School Programs. This allows the provider adequate time to prepare staffing requirements.

Late pick up

All students who are not collected by parents from their after school class will be taken to Aftercare. As this is run by an external provider, Extend, we encourage all children to be registered in the event that you are late to pick up your child. If your child needs to go to Aftercare, you will be charged the relevant fee for the service. For more details on the Extend program and registration go to www.extend.com.au
