A MESSAGE FROM THE CHAIR OF GOVERNORS . . . We currently have two governor vacancies:  The first one is for a Parent Governor and we would like to invite parents and carers to put themselves forward for election.  The second vacancy is for a Co-opted Governor and this one is for any interested stakeholder; a Co-opted Governor does not have to be a parent or carer of a child in school. Being a governor does involve a good deal of commitment, but while the responsibilities are considerable, so are the benefits. You would have the opportunity to make a difference to all of the children in our school, by working together with the Headteacher to make our Good school into an Outstanding school. Interested candidates should contact the Chair of Governors via the school office for an informal discussion about the expectations of the role. The Parent Governor will be decided by election. Papers are available from the school office and should be returned to the school office before the end of the school day on Monday 3rd October. An election will be organised as soon as possible after that. The Co-opted Governor will be appointed after discussion by the Governing Body. Anyone interested in this vacancy should also obtain papers from the school office and return them to school before the end of the school day on Monday 3rd October. Please clearly mark the papers to indicate that it is the Co-opted Governor vacancy that interests you.

MESSY CHURCH All children and families are invited to Messy Church at St Columba’s on Tuesday 20th September to join in the fun, craft activities, story, song time and refreshments. Children can go along straight from school, but please remember that children under 8 years of age must be accompanied by a parent or carer.

FIRST SAVERS WITH NORTH TYNESIDE CREDIT UNION We are hoping to start a new savings scheme for children, linked with North Tyneside Employees Credit Union. The Credit Union offers an alternative to banks and building societies. Unlike a regular savings account in which savers receive interest, savers with the Credit Union are rewarded for saving by payment of a yearly dividend. The ‘First Savers’ scheme is for children and young people up to the age of 16 years old. Adults may enrol their children or grandchildren as First Savers and act as a joint signatory to the account with the First Saver until an age specified for the First Saver to become responsible for running their own account. If you would like to find out more about First Savers and about the Credit Union, a representative from the Credit Union will be in school to speak to parents and carers at 2:30 p.m. on Wednesday 21st September.
