HOUSE NEWS I am very pleased to announce the names of our new House Captains, who all really impressed the children and staff with their presentations about the role House Captain and were elected following an incredibly close vote. All those Year 6 children, who want to be considered for the role, were invited to give a short presentation, answering these 3 questions: 1. Why do you want to be a House Captain? 2. What makes you the best choice for House Captain? 3. How would you set a good example for the other children? Congratulations go to: Alnwick

READING WORKSHOP To provide parents and carers of children in Reception with more information about the way we teach reading, we have arranged a reading workshop on Tuesday 29th September at 2.30pm in the school hall. We look forward to seeing you there.

‘GOING FOR GOLD’ IN ATTENDANCE As you are aware, we are trying to improve attendance, because research tells us that children who attend school regularly make better progress, both socially and academically. We want to celebrate and reward good attendance, so we have introduced an attendance medal table and have challenged every class to ‘Go for Gold’. Medals will be awarded every week based on the total class attendance and at the end of each half term, the class with the most medal points can choose a treat for all of the children in the class to enjoy. This is how the medal table looks so far: Class 1H 1R

PARENT GOVERNOR VACANCY We currently have a vacancy for a Parent Governor and would like to invite parents/carers to put themselves forward for election. Being a governor does involve a good deal of commitment, but while the responsibilities are considerable, so are the benefits. You would have the opportunity to make a difference to all of the children in our school, by working together with the Headteacher to make our Good school into an Outstanding school. If you would like to know more about the role of a parent governor, more information is included with the election papers, or you can contact the Chair of Governors via the school office for an informal discussion. Election papers are available from the school office and should be returned to the school office before the end of the school day on Monday 5th October.

‘JEANS FOR GENES’ DAY Thank you to all those children (and staff) who came to school today wearing their jeans to support 'Jeans for Genes' day. Together we raised £150, which will be sent to the 'Jeans for Genes' charity to help to fund research into childhood genetic disorders, such as Cystic Fibrosis.

CATERING SERVICES FUN DAY

On Thursday 1st October, Catering Services have planned a Fun Day with a special party menu and fun competitions throughout lunchtime with exciting prizes. If you would like your child to stay for lunch on that day, the cost of a school lunch is £2.08 per day, and the preferred method of payment is by using their on-line payment system JOINOS, or by paying over the telephone using a debit card or credit card on 0191 643 2888. Our school cook, Pauline and her team look forward to welcoming your child to join in the fun.
