OPERATION ENCOMPASS Greenfields, along with all other schools in North Tyneside, is going to be involved in a new project called ‘Operation Encompass’, which will run in partnership with North Tyneside Council and Northumbria Police. The project starts in June 2016 and aims to support children who are affected by domestic abuse. Witnessing domestic abuse is incredibly distressing for children, who often see the abuse, hear it from another room, see their parent’s injuries or their distress afterwards, or the child could even be physically hurt trying to stop the domestic abuse. Following any domestic abuse incident being reported to the Police, the Police will make contact with the Children’s Social Care Front Door service, who will then communicate any relevant and necessary information to school. This will ensure that school is made aware at the earliest possible opportunity and therefore can provide appropriate support to children, so that they can feel safe and know that there is someone at school who will listen to them if they want to talk. Each school has two members of staff who will act as key adults for Operation Encompass. At Greenfields the key adults are the Headteacher Mrs Taylor and the Assistant Headteacher Mrs Cockman, who have both been fully trained in liaising with Police and Children’s Social Care, and will ensure that the necessary support is made available to children following any disclosure of a domestic abuse incident. Our involvement in Operation Encompass is one of the ways that we are confirming our school’s commitment to working in partnership to safeguard and protect children, so that we can provide the best possible care and support for our pupils. If you would like to speak to someone about Operation Encompass, or require further information please contact Mrs Taylor or Mrs Cockman. FINALLY . . . Paula at St Columba’s church has asked me to say a big THANK YOU to the boy who helped her to put the bins away on his way to school this week. She didn’t know his name, but said he was so polite and helpful that she just had to tell me about it. Whoever you are – thank you and well done for being such a fantastic ambassador for Greenfields!
