WELCOME Thank you for being here on this beautiful Easter morning! We are excited to be with our city celebrating God’s love, hope & life. THE RESURRECTION OF JESUS on Easter morning is when creation gets a second chance to correct what’s wrong. After the beautiful events of Creation, things fell radically. A crippling and contagious brokenness enters the world, which we see evidenced on the news each night, in our relationships, and even in our own hearts. Yet God’s story doesn’t end there. He continues to provide a common grace for the common good: flowers still bloom, babies still smile, farmers still farm, miracles still happen. But as the world often reminds us, we needed a firm and final answer to our brokenness. So God comes to us, as Jesus. He teaches and seeks reform in such a radical way that he is tortured and executed on a cross. And Easter is the turning point in the story. Through Jesus’ resurrection and new life, a new humanity is born! And now, the story continues, and we each have a place in it. All because of Easter morning. 2

FIRST THINGS We planned this day with your family in mind. including a special room set aside for nursing mothers, located on the 2nd floor outside the doors of the Walt Disney Theater. Please see one of the ushers for directions.

And remember, it’s Easter!

A day of celebration and joy, so it’s okay if we make some noise. We want everyone, including our children, to feel welcome and at ease here.

We want to hear from you! Check in with us by texting Fpco to the number 313-131. We will text you an amazing gif and send you 2 ways to learn more about this church. Or, there is a Guest Card and pen in the back pocket of this book. Drop it in the offering plate as it passes by, and we will send you an email this week.

You can give your offering online today. If you prefer to give electronically instead of by check or cash, visit our secure portal at fpco.org/mobile on your smartphone. Contributions support First Pres’ ministries in The City Beautiful and around the world.

worship March 27, 2016 * Asterisk indicates when to stand. Bold, black text indicates when to sing or speak. EASTER FANFARE He Is Not Here!

“I am trying here to prevent anyone saying the really foolish thing that people often say about Him: I’m ready to accept Jesus as a great moral teacher, but I don’t accept his claim to be God.That is the one thing we must not say. A man who was merely a man and said the sort of things Jesus said would not be a great moral teacher. He would either be a lunatic — on the level with the man who says he is a poached egg — or else he would be the Devil of Hell. You must make your choice. Either this man was, and is, the Son of God, or else a madman or something worse. You can shut him up for a fool, you can spit at him and kill him as a demon or you can fall at his feet and call him Lord and God, but let us not come with any patronizing nonsense about his being a great human teacher. He has not left that open to us. He did not intend to.” -C.S. Lewis, Mere Christianity, p.52

MESSAGE Dr. David Swanson

Scripture 1 Corinthians 15:14-22 Message It’s a Love Story, Baby 13

HYMN The Holy City Stephen Adams John Easterlin, Chancel Choir, and Orchestra

Last night I lay a-sleeping, there came a dream so fair, I stood in old Jerusalem, beside the temple there, I heard the children singing, and ever as they sang, Me thought the voice of angels, from heav’n in answer rang. Me thought the voice of angels, from heav’n in answer rang. Jerusalem, Jerusalem, lift up your gates and sing, Hosanna in the highest, Hosanna to your King! And then me-thought my dream was changed, the streets no longer rang, Hushed were the glad Hosannas the little children sang, The sun grew dark with mystery, the morn was cold and chill, As the shadow of a cross arose upon a lonely hill, As the shadow of a cross arose upon a lonely hill,

*HYMN Hallelujah Chorus G.F. Handel Chancel Choir, Orchestra, & Congregation

Hallelujah, hallelujah... For the Lord God Omnipotent reigneth, Hallelujah… The kingdom of this world Is become the kingdom of our Lord, and of His Christ, and of His Christ And He shall reign for ever and ever. King of kings (forever and ever, hallelujah), and Lord of lords. King of kings (forever and ever, hallelujah), and Lord of lords. And He shall reign for ever and ever. Hallelujah, hallelujah, hallelujah, hallelujah…....Hallelujah!

*BENEDICTION Dr. David Swanson

Jerusalem, Jerusalem, Hark! how the angels sing, Hosanna in the highest, Hosanna to your King! And once again the scene was changed, new earth there seemed to be, I saw the Holy City beside the tideless sea, The light of God was on its streets, the gates were open wide, And all who would might enter, and no one was denied. No need of moon or stars by night, Or sun to shine by day, It was the new Jerusalem that would not pass away, It was the new Jerusalem that would not pass away. Jerusalem, Jerusalem! Sing for the night is o’er! Hosanna in the highest, Hosanna forever more! Hosanna in the highest, Hosanna forevermore!
