The Arts Catalyst Internship: Programme and Communications Intern Background to the organisation The Arts Catalyst is one of the UK’s most distinctive arts organisations, known for its art/science specialism and ambitious artists’ commissions. Over two decades, the company has built an international reputation as a leader in the field of interdisciplinary artistic practices that intersect with science. We have commissioned more than 125 artists’ projects, produced numerous critically appreciated and popular exhibitions and events at galleries, festivals and museums across the UK and internationally, built alliances between artists, scientists and other experts, and organised influential conferences, workshops and meetings. Our beneficiaries are the general public (art goers, the culturally curious, local communities and specialist interest groups), young people, and artists. Our work reaches over 50,000 people each year in the UK, and many more via our online films, e-publications and evolving archive. In 2016 the arts catalyst will open the Centre for Art, Science and Technology in Kings Cross.

JOB DESCRIPTION Summary of the role The role will support aspects of the artistic programme and communications; this would include administration assistance, front of house assistance, working with the team, audiences and artists. The organisation is based on 4 members of staff (1 full time, 3 part-time). It is a small organisation and the apprentice will work mainly along side the programme manager who oversees the management of the public programme, marketing, finance and operations. They will also directly work with the Communications Officer and Curator who will be able to provide the trainee with valuable knowledge and guidance. Reporting to:

Main responsibilities The Programme and Communications Intern will be responsible for undertaking the following duties and activities:  Answer general telephone and email enquiries, taking messages or dealing with them as appropriate  Undertake filing (paper and electronic), emailing, archiving, photocopying, minute taking if needed  Provide general office administrative support including distribution of incoming and outgoing post  Maintain necessary administrative and operational systems as required  Competently use a range of standard office equipment including Mac’s, telephone, photocopier, printer,  Undertake any research required for projects as directed by the Curator (using the internet, library resources, etc)  Coordinate meetings and the preparation and distribution of papers  Assist artists in preparation for workshops and public activities for a variety of audiences  Assist with database management and marketing materials and research  Work with the Communications Officer to deliver and research programme marketing schemes including proof reading  Undertake evaluation of public activities and set up of events  Deal with members of the public from time to time, this will include enquiries and answering questions regarding the programme and the organisation  Assisting with health and safety reports for projects  Be available at some weekends and evenings to attend events  Assist artists in residents when appropriate  Help coordinate artists and speakers logistics (e.g. boking flights and journeys) Other responsibilities  Being aware of and working within the guidelines of your organisations’ policies and procedures, including equal opportunities, child protection, vulnerable adults and health and safety]  Being aware of the organisational environmental policy  Act as an ambassador for the organisation  Undertake other appropriate duties as may be reasonably required

Employability skills session Islington Council will be holding an employability skills session for applicants [2-4pm] at Platform Youth Hub, Hornsey Road Baths, 2 Tiltman Place, N7 7EE, on Wednesday 13th January 2016. A member of the Council Youth Careers team will be available to advise you on CV writing and interview skills and will be able to help with questions about the application form.
