COST OF LIVING INDEX
Welcome to the latest Barclays British Expat Cost of Living Index. Designed to show the cost of life’s essentials in major cities around the world, it gives you an idea of your spending before you arrive. We use current data to compile our index and this is our latest update. The index focuses on eight cities that are popular destinations for British expats: Auckland, Beijing, Dubai, Geneva, Johannesburg, Madrid, Singapore and Sydney. For each city, we compare the cost of a basket of 47 popular items and the average level of monthly outgoings, giving you an indication as to whether it would be more or less expensive to live there compared with London. We also include one-page summaries of some popular spend items for each of our chosen cities. The data used for our index is sourced from thousands of existing residents living in these cities, who have submitted prices to our partner website Expatistan. We’ll be updating the Cost of Living Index again in six months’ time.
