Sept. 9/10 Lesson 1: Choosing Your Crew

The Big Question How do we choose good friends? We’ll solve this question with help from King Rehoboam’s story in 1 Kings 12, and our memory verse!

Joke What’s orange and sounds like a parrot? A carrot.

What’s Happening? Sailing a ship takes an entire crew. On this life-long journey, the people we travel with make all the difference. This week, we talked about how to choose good friends, and how to be a good friend to others. When you see a chance to be a friend to someone else this week, give it a try! Encourage, stand up for, or be kind to someone. You never know what a difference it could make.

Memory Verse None of you should look out just for your own good. You should also look out for the good of others. Philippians 2:4

Sept. 16/17 Lesson 2: Rough Seas

The Big Question How should we treat people we don’t like? We’ll look into the book of Jonah to find out God’s answer to this question. To find out what God thinks of people we don’t like, check out Jonah 4:2.

Joke I wrote a song about a tortilla the other day. Actually, it was more of a wrap.

What’s Happening? Not everyone we meet will be our best friend. How should we treat people we don’t like? A man named Jonah asked that same question, and God had some answers for him. This week, watch for a chance to be kind to someone you normally wouldn’t hang out with. Tell a parent or friend about your idea.

Memory Verse None of you should look out just for your own good. You should also look out for the good of others. Philippians 2:4

Sept. 23/24 Lesson 3: Captain’s Orders

The Big Question How can I have good relationships with people in charge? We’ll look at King David’s story in 1 Samuel 16-19 for one way to answer this question.

Joke When mom asked me to stop acting like a flamingo, I had to put my foot down.

What’s Happening? We get along with our friends, but what about people in charge? This week in Elevate, we discussed what it means to show respect for someone. Talk about respect with someone in charge this week. What do your parents think it means to show respect? Your teachers? Find out what they have to say!

Memory Verse None of you should look out just for your own good. You should also look out for the good of others. Philippians 2:4

Sept. 30/Oct. 1 Lesson 4: Ahoy!

The Big Question What difference do my words make? Through Paul’s story and the book of Philippians, we’ll see the impact our words can make on others. To find out why Paul thinks our words and actions are important, see Philippians 2:1-18.

Joke I saw an ad that said “TV for sale, volume stuck on full.” “Well,” I thought, “I can’t turn that down.”

What’s Happening? Pay attention to your words this week. Who do you talk to the most? If you post something online, who sees it? Try giving someone a compliment or an encouraging note, then watch how they react!

Memory Verse None of you should look out just for your own good. You should also look out for the good of others. Philippians 2:4

Oct. 7/8 Lesson 5: Damage Control

The Big Question How can I fix a broken relationship? In Genesis 27 and 33, we meet Jacob and Esau, two brothers with a broken relationship. Their story shows us a great place to start repairing our own damaged families and friendships.

Joke Where did Noah keep the two bees? In the ark-hives!

What’s Happening? Is there a relationship in your life that needs some repair? Someone you are feeling angry at that you need to forgive? Try practicing what you could say to forgive them. You could even write them a letter. You don’t have to give the letter to them, but you can start making that friendship better today by letting them know that you forgive them.

Memory Verse None of you should look out just for your own good. You should also look out for the good of others. Philippians 2:4

Oct. 14/15 Lesson 6: Rescue

The Big Question How can I have a relationship with God? God longs to repair our broken relationship with him. That’s why He sent Jesus! Check out the story of how Jesus forgave Peter, and how he offers every person on earth forgiveness, in John 19-21.

Joke There was a big paddle sale at the boat store. It was quite an oar deal.

What’s Happening? God made you to get to know him, and live your whole life as his friend. He thinks you are incredible, and loves you more than you can ever know. What is something good you could do for God this week? You could spend time with Him in prayer each day, worship Him with your family before dinner, or create something that reminds you of how amazing God is. Give it a try!

Memory Verse None of you should look out just for your own good. You should also look out for the good of others. Philippians 2:4
