The Jesus Life Lesson 15 Title: The Jesus Life Live Out Sermon: Easter was just the beginning Scripture: Acts 1:1-8 Big Idea: The Holy Spirit was given to empower The Jesus Life. Announcements * Men’s Retreat: Men’s Retreat is happening May 18-20 at Zephyr Point. Sign up on the patio and online. * Chapel Pianists Needed: Our Chapel venue is looking for more piano players to join their team. If you are able to serve in this way, please contact Jeff Nelson in the church office. * AWANA Store Night: May 1 is AWANA store night. This is a fun way to reward our AWANA kids for their effort in studying and memorizing God’s Word this past year. You can help make it great by donating fun items that K-6th grade kids would enjoy. Ideas are available at the yellow collection bins located in the Worship Center, gym and Chapel. * Rummage Sale drop-offs: Rummage Sale is coming up on April 27th and 28th. Donations are being accepted now. Bring us your used household items, furniture, sports equipment, tools and antiques. (Unfortunately, we will NOT be accepting couches, clothing, shoes, tube televisions or printers.) Please drop donations off in front of the Chapel in between services or contact Pastor Dillon if you would like to drop off during that week. We also need volunteers for this event. Please visit the table on the Patio for more information or contact Alyssa in the church office. * Women’s Tea: Women’s Tea is coming up May 5 and we can’t wait to share it with you. Join us for good food, fellowship and a new message from Renee Bondi, our incredible speaker from last year.

Opening Question: Luke wrote a history of the early church. Who would you want to write your history? Open in prayer Discussion Questions 1. What convincing proofs did Jesus give of His resurrection? (1 Cor. 15:3-8)

2. How many years of church history was Luke documenting? When did he write it? How could he have written such detail so many years after the events?

3. Explain how the cultural climate of the first century was similar and different from the cultural climate of today?

2

Read Acts 1:1-9 4. How long did Jesus remain on earth and what did He continue to teach?

5. A person’s last words on earth are very important. What were Jesus’ last words? What impact was that to have on His followers? What impact is that to have on you?

6. Was Acts 1:8 a prediction of a scattered church or instructions on how to reach the world?

7. Use a dictionary and write out the definition of “witness.”

8. Pastor Brian said that being a “witness” is the fundamental assignment of every believer. Excluding your conversion experience, what credible evidence (convincing proof) can you give someone about your relationship with Jesus Christ? (In other words, what has He done for you lately?)

9. Use commentaries or other resources and explain the difference between being baptized with the Holy Spirit and being filled with the Holy Spirit. Why is re-filling necessary?

10. We receive spiritual power by being filled with the Holy Spirit. How does that happen?

11. Stop right now and again in your small group, and invite the Spirit to fill you and empower you today.
