June 5, 2018 Dear Families, I am writing to bring you up to speed on a serious matter at Marlboro Middle School. During the school day, yesterday, MMS administration became aware of a threat that was overheard by a middle school student regarding the safety of other students. Specifically, there was an allegation that the students had been discussing a list and that these students made threatening comments about students on the list. The Middle School Administration immediately conducted an investigation and notified our School Resource Officer. The ensuing investigation has resulted in school discipline and police authorities are further reviewing the matter. At this point, we are confident that the situation has been dealt with appropriately and we are grateful to the students and parent that reported this issue to MMS administration. No threat, however severe or insignificant, can be ignored. Please also know that we understand children will handle this type of information in various ways. We are aware that some students have expressed anxiety regarding this matter. It is my desire that this letter helps to get the facts our to our families. Additionally, our counseling staff and teachers have been made aware of this matter and stand ready to help children with any concerns they have. If you would like to speak directly to our counseling staff at MMS, I encourage you to do so by calling the Middle School Guidance Office at 236-5844. You can also call our Middle School Administration at 236-5840. Thank you for your continued care and concern for the safety of your children in our schools. We will not tolerate an unsafe environment. In today’s world, words matter. Please talk with your children and remind them that our middle school is a safe place and that they should share any concerns they have with you or with an adult at MMS. Together, we will keep Marlboro a safe place to learn each and every day.

Sincerely,

Michael Brooks, Superintendent
