Bridgeview PTA Bridgeview Elementary School Minutes – January 10, 2017 Attendees: Leta Rose, Tina Miller, Shauna Cotton, Pam Boens, Crystal Vandernat, Mrs. Behrer, Ms. Rasmussen, Heather Shadden, Tonya Hilliard, Christy Pacha, and Erin Vargas Call to Order The meeting was called to order at 6:04pm by PTA President, Leta Rose. Secretary's Report The December Minutes were provided at the meeting for those to review. The Decmber 13, 2017 Minutes were approved. M: Crystal Vandernat S: Pam Boens P: Yes Treasurer’s Report Tina Miller handed out an updated budget report. Our current bank balance is $18,997.42. The PTA received a check from Box Tops for $733.00 from our last submission. The Box Top check dates do not follow our school year calendar. We have $7,526.34 remaining in our 2016-2017 budget. $3,500 has been allocated for gaga pit mats. We have $7,971.08 unallocated at this time. Principal’s Report Mrs. Behrer mentioned that the Bridgeview’s Fine Arts Night (formerly known as Bridgeview BLAST) will have some changes this year. The staff is still working on the details and changes of the event. One idea that has been presented is to showcase each grade for the evening, unlike in the past BLAST nights. The idea will include a video of each grade’s art called “Showcase of Learning”. After the video presentation, parents will be able to view the art in their child’s classroom that evening. The PTA will still continue to provide a free book to each child that attends the Fine Arts Night on April 6th. Mrs. Behrer reported that the Library’s request for a grant for additional seating and the word wall art had been denied for $4,000. The PTA is reviewing the request from Mrs. Behrer and Ms. Fight. Ms. Fight is planning to have a committee of 5th and 6th grade students to help pick out the additional furniture for the library if approved. The word wall art has been designed and was shown to the PTA members at the meeting. Hallway speeding tickets are now being issued in order to help with the problem of students running from the cafeteria to get to the playground. Mrs. Behrer said they have tried many ways to get the students to slow down in the hall. And, the hallway speeding tickets were brought back from the past for the safety of the students. Since implementing the idea last week, Mrs. Behrer said that is really seems to be working and students are doing much better. Mrs. Behrer said that they are beginning each day with the Pledge of Allegiance to represent the character pillar of citizenship and community. The pledge was implemented last month. Last week, Bridgeview began implementing class participation with the 6th grade leading the pledge. They also began with a morning announcement and focusing on the students. The announcements include reminders of student events or Bridgeview student’s achievements. The Spartan safe snack list has been updated with some new items added and others deleted. Mrs. Behrer reminded everyone to make sure to check the new list on the district’s website before the next classroom party. Pleasant View Elementary will be hosting a World Culture Night on February 10th at 6:00pm. The entire district is invited to attend. The world culture night will have stations featuring facts about all different cultures around the world. Old Business Teacher Special Requests: The office staff received their new Cricut tools that were requested at the last PTA

meeting. Also, Mr. McConnell also received his Gelli Art gel printing plates for the art room. The students already have artwork displayed in the halls using the new gel printing plates. New Business Teacher Special Requests: Joette Strobbe, school nurse, requested a blood pressure cuff for $141.50. The PTA granted the request. The funds will come from Mrs. Strobbe’s $100 teacher allotment and the remaining $41.50 will be taken out of the special request account.
