COMMUNICATE CONSTANTLY

Communicate constantly is our second pillar and while it is the hardest to quantify it is arguably the most important.  Just recently I heard it said that great teams communicate in surround sound.  What they meant is that the best teams communicate with the players on the floor and from the players that are on the sideline because they are all so engaged in the game.  What a great way of putting things.   When thinking of this I think of two former players, Giuliana Madrigali and Remi Greenwood.  Giuliana and communication go hand and hand.  Giuliana is the best communicating defender I've ever coached.  Even though she was small in stature, I wanted to have her close to the basket because she did a great job quarterbacking our defense from there. She added so much value. What we lost in size, she made up for with (Continued on Page 2) communication.

(Continued) Remi first caught my eye, or ear, her Junior Year.  It was her first year on varsity and I'm sure she didn't play as much as she would have liked, but she was always engaged.  She would say the strangest things to her teammates on the court but she was always encouraging.  One I'll never forget and hadn't heard prior was her constantly yelling to teammates "You're Better" whenever someone was applying pressure to them.  Just as with Giuliana, these actions by Remi added value to our team.

COMMUNICATE CONSTANTLY

That's why I love the idea of communicating in Surround Sound.  The best teams understand that it isn't 5 players that get them through, it's the entire team.  The more we can develop this Surround Sound mindset the more successful we can become as a program. Let's communicate in Surround Sound.  Let's be fully immersed in each competition we're involved in and let's be willing to communicate effectively (sharing and listening) one to another.

(Continued) Tryouts take place during the athletic period.  If you are competing in volleyball or another sport that is in-season, you will be given the same 6 - 45 Minute workouts at the conclusion of your season.  If you have any questions about tryouts, feel free to contact me. TRYOUTS

PHYSICALS Make sure to submit physicals to me by August 1st or let me know when I will receive them. HOME VISITS I will begin contacting you about home visits via email this week.

TRYOUTS

Tryouts will be August 16-23.  You will be evaluated on athleticism, how aggressively you attack, how disruptive you are when you defend, and the decisions that you make during each phase.
