Theology libraries in digital revolution Free resources to provide substantial benefit for next generation of church leaders One hundred of the best theology titles are being made available to read for free for students and staff at institutions associated with the Common Awards programme. This includes the majority of those training for licensed lay ministry and for ordination. Launched at Church House Westminster this week, the online library covers both the old and new testaments, liturgy, doctrine, preaching, theological reflection, mission and more. Resources are completely free of charge for all staff and students - with the usual proviso that students can print, copy or quote in line with standard academic copyright rules. Titles include some of the most prominent academics and theologians working today. Dr Ken Farrimond, the Church of England’s E-Learning Adviser, comments: “Our investment in this online library feature is the latest development in our mission to renew ministerial education in the digital age, and we have every intention of expanding the project after this. Since launching our online learning hub two years ago we’ve seen a tremendous growth, with almost all our accredited theological education institutions getting involved. We hope these e-books will prove a valuable asset for students training for licensed lay ministry or for ordination.” The two-year joint project by the Church of England and Hymns Ancient & Modern will continue to be expanded as new titles and editions become available. The resource will be particularly welcome for students from lower income backgrounds. Hymns Ancient & Modern CEO, Dominic Vaughan, adds: “We are thrilled to be a partner in this exciting project. We sincerely hope that those accessing the books will find them a great support in their studies. We believe this initiative will enrich the Church of England and the wider church with valuable resources for study, reflection and prayer.” ENDS Notes to editors Available books are published by SCM Press and Canterbury Press, both publishing imprints of Hymns Ancient & Modern. SCM Press publishes around forty new books a year across biblical studies, practical theology, ecclesiology and ethics, with a desire to engage academic theology with the wider church and with society. Canterbury Press is a leading publisher of liturgy, worship, mission, ministry, spirituality, biography, travel and humour. While many of our books originate in the Anglican tradition, we hope they will appeal to all with an interest in Christianity.
