Delta Conservancy Board meeting is July 26 The Delta Conservancy Board will meet July 26 in West Sacramento. The agenda includes a request for approval of the 2017/2018 Proposition 1 Grant Guidelines and a request for approval of the Conservancy’s 2017-2022 Strategic Plan. Delta Stewardship Council meeting is July 27 in West Sacramento The Delta Stewardship Council will meet July 27 in West Sacramento. Agenda items include Delta Independent Science Board update, appointment of Delta Lead Scientist, 2017-2021 Science Action Agenda, quarterly report from the State Water Resources Control Board’s Delta Watermaster, WaterFix update regarding Biological Opinions, and an update on Implementation of Delta as Place and Delta Marketing Efforts. Cal OES posts announcement for 2017 Pre-Disaster Mitigation and the Flood Mitigation Assistance Grant Programs The California Governor’s Office of Emergency Services (Cal OES) has posted the announcement for the 2017 PreDisaster Mitigation and the Flood Mitigation Assistance Grant Programs. These programs provide funding for the development of local hazard mitigation plans and implementation of hazard mitigation projects. The specific Cal OES information concerning the funding opportunities and application process is on the Cal OES Pre-Disaster and Flood Mitigation Division web site. The Notice of Interest by applicants for both programs must be submitted to Cal OES by August 4.

First seminar in series of brown bag seminars on integrated modeling is August 15 The Delta Stewardship Council’s Delta Science Program, the California Department of Fish and Wildlife’s Watershed Restoration Grants Branch, and the Surface Water Ambient Monitoring Program are co-sponsoring a brown bag seminar series on integrated modeling. The first brown bag seminar, August 15 in Sacramento, is titled Integrating Monitoring, Research, and Management: Leveling the Three-Legged Stool. Jim Peterson, Ph.D., Assistant Unit Leader, U.S. Geological Survey, Associate Professor of Fisheries, Oregon State University, will discuss how research, management, and monitoring are often portrayed as distinct endeavors, but are actually complementary, not competitive. Save the date — tools for invasive species management symposium is August 29 The Delta Interagency Invasive Species Coordination Team, the Delta Stewardship Council’s Delta Science Program, and University of California, Davis, will present a one-day science symposium on tools for invasive species management in the Delta August 29 in Davis. The symposium will explore tools and actions being developed to meet today’s invasive species management needs, preparing for future challenges, how habitats can be managed to encourage native and deter invasive species, and how social science can be better integrated into invasive species management. Lunch will be provided for registered attendees during a mid-day poster session. Registration is now open.
