SWRCB grants DWR’s motion for protective order in California WaterFix hearings The State Water Resources Control Board (SWRCB) hearing officers have issued a letter ruling granting DWR’s motion for protective order in the California WaterFix hearings.

Council will conduct public scoping meeting for EIR for Delta Plan amendments The Delta Stewardship Council (Council) will conduct a public scoping meeting March 24 in Sacramento to receive comments for the Council’s Notice of Preparation to develop a program environmental impact report (EIR) for the proposed amendments to the Delta Plan. More information, including webcast access and how to submit comments, is here. Also, the Council will meet March 23 in Brentwood. Agenda items include accepting the draft amendment of Delta Plan revisions for the Delta Levees Investment Strategy; a status report on the Delta Plan amendment regarding conveyance, storage, and the operation of both; and consideration of the draft Delta Plan amendment for refinement of the performance measures. CVRWQCB Delta Nutrient STAG meeting is March 24 The Central Valley Regional Water Quality Control Board’s Delta Nutrient STAG (Stakeholder and Technical Advisory Group) will meet March 24 in Rancho Cordova. The meeting will present the proposed prioritization process for ranking research recommendations, provide an update on the Drinking Water White Paper, and provide the schedule for the Nutrient Research Plan. CVFPB meeting features NASA briefing on groundwater pumping causing subsidence The Central Valley Flood Protection Board (CVFPB) will meet March 24 in Sacramento. One agenda item is a briefing by the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) whose data shows groundwater pumping has caused subsidence and damaged water infrastructure. SWRCB brown bag seminar covers ecological strategies for toxic algae control The State Water Resources Control Board ‘s (SWRCB’s) Office of Information Management and Analysis is sponsoring a brown bag seminar March 30 in Sacramento, titled Ecological Strategies for Water Remediation and Toxic Algae Control. Jonathan Todd of John Todd Ecological Design will introduce broad applications of floating islands worldwide that are successfully improving water quality and are helping to mitigate and prevent algae blooms. The presentation will also describe two deployments in California, which are the Limoneira Wastewater Treatment Plant in Santa Paula and the recently deployed East Lake in Yorba Linda installation for golden algae control. Delta Protection Commission releases its 2016 Annual Report The Delta Protection Commission has released its 2016 Annual Report. Some of the reported topics are concluding the community action planning process in Clarksburg, Courtland, and Walnut Grove; publishing a draft of the Delta Flood Risk Management Assessment District Feasibility Study for public comments; compiling a large inventory of the recreational facilities in the Delta available for the public; and an expanded Delta Flood Safety Preparedness Fair and Delta Waterway Cleanup.
