Praise for the Book “Bernard, you are a repository of motivation” ~ Abeiku Santana, Broadcast Journalist, Radio Presenter OKAY FM, Ghana ‘’I firmly opine that this book has nuggets of practical wisdom and it wonderfully informs us about the power of little things which are normally underestimated, it teaches us how to harness the same things we ignore, for a better life and I believe it is a must read for everyone.’’ ~ Bismark Seth Opoku, University of Ghana It takes few people to find inspiration in everyday life activities and it takes even fewer people to use this inspiration to get things done. Bernard is among these fewer people. In this book, he shows you how to use your everyday life activities and immediate environment to inspire yourself and get things done to fulfill your dreams. Have a read, get inspired, prevent your dream from dying and let's hear your unsung music. Irene Danquah, Operation Officer, TANOE.

Why I wrote this book #ALittleBitOfMe I joined an active online community in 2010 when I was on my journey of writing and publishing my first book ‘Your Dreams Will Not Die”. I studied and gathered a lot of insight along the way from blogging to book and podcasting. Today, I have successfully published close to a dozen of books all available on amazon. www.Amazon.com/Bernardkelvin #StartWhereYouAre I started podcasting 2 years ago, then podcasts were not in the known, only few pastors were using some of their sermons as podcasts but no specific individual doing a podcast show in Ghana. I just started using my dell laptop with its inbuilt microphone, doing just a minute of motivations; I always had to get to a quiet place to prerecord to avoid lots of noise. I later recorded some from a professional studio then moved to get better headset, to 8

do it on my own. I tried podcasting on different platforms. Got lots of subscribers, at a point I had an episode getting over 5000 downloads, got my podcast ranked #1 in iTunes Ghana & Botswana under Self-Help Category, I messed up the whole thing and started all over. Not that I have arrived, no not in any way, I'm still learning, practicing and polishing along the way. In this book I share with you little things I do and other successful people do that will help you become a better person. Enjoy the read. #JustLittleThings

Introduction Doing the little things… In a crowded and noisy world where attention span has become limited, the question is: how do you wade through all the available data, to get the information needed; how do you filter the noise to hear the voice? This is not only an art but a skill to develop. This book is an attempt to save you chunk of time by providing you relevant information for your personal and professional development, motivation to make life fun. These are the little things that create big impact. "Don't be afraid to give your best to what seemingly are small jobs. Every time you conquer one it makes you that much stronger. If you do the little jobs well, the big ones tend to take care of themselves." Dale Carnegie These are simple things but not necessarily easy to do. Let’s get started…

77 Ways to be More Productive in Life & Business Vision is not enough; it must be combined with venture. It is not enough to stare up the steps. We must step up the stairs. — Václav Havel These are not rules or rituals to adhere to; they serve as guidelines, idea-triggers and tips to help you make the most of your life and business. Here are some of the things successful people do that you can also keep to; 1. Mindset shift: Be productivity minded and not only activity minded. 2. 9 Amazing Nuggets for Your Life Here, I present to you golden pieces of wisdom – summary of ideas and advice to take along on life’s journey... 1. Find Your Purpose The reason for which something was created: Everyone has a purpose to fulfill and no one appeared here by accident. Find what you are supposed to do, why you are here, the problems to solve, the lives to impact. That will be your purpose. 2. Work with Passion Being consumed by what you do – the zeal and enthusiasm that comes when you find your purpose – passion at work. I created this acronym for PASSION.

28

o Purpose – knowing exactly what you want. Definiteness of purpose. o Action – having a working plan and working the plan. o Self-Starter - being an initiator, self-motivated person. o Self-Confident – believing in yourself and your dreams. o Inspired – finding your source of inspiration. o Organized – Putting your ideas into meaningful form(Structure) o Natural – whatever you do, just be yourself, follow your heart. 3. Polish your gifts John Maxwell stated that “Talent is Not Enough.” Yes, that is true. This requires discipline to practice and work on your gifts and talents daily, a habit that sets the high achievers apart, from the ordinary. Always find ways to improve and build yourself up. Ronald E. Osborn

emphasized "Undertake something that is difficult; it will do you good. Unless you try to do something beyond what you have already mastered, you will never grow." 4. Be Confident Believe in yourself and what you have to offer, this comes in when you keep mastering your craft, becoming so good at what you do boosts your confidence. 5. Smile always Energize your environment with your smile, joy and excitement. Keep a cheerful countenance always. Learn to be happy in spite of conditions. It heals. 6. Love people Love people for who they are. Mother Teresa stated “There is more hunger for love and appreciation in this world than for bread”. Love conquers all things –spread love 30

7. Be Patient but Persevere Take a day at a time, don’t rush through life, and remember certain processes will always require time; a seed sown must die first before it germinates. The patience to wait for it is the key to success. Add to your patience persistence. Keep pushing, till the door is open. Note that every wall has a door – keep knocking. 8. Be Grateful Be thankful for life, for all the little things in life, for your accomplishments. Gratitude is a key that unlocks doors. The more grateful you are for what you have the more you get a whole lot to be grateful for. 9. Give. Give. Give! Give to people, give back to the society. Give of yourself, your wealth of wisdom,

your money, your time and whatever you can give gracefully. Give in every capacity you can. It doesn’t matter how much we have or what we have, what matters most is how much we are willing to give. ~ Enjoy Life Don't judge each day by the harvest you reap, but by the seeds you plant." Robert Louis Stevenson

27 Tiny Things That Makes Life Worthwhile Here in this chapter I will be sharing with you snippets of information, lessons and practical tips for living an inspired and healthy life. I believe you may be familiar with most of them, however, take this as a kind reminder to reinforce those habits. 1. Start being grateful: Be thankful for what you have right now. Family, friends, and everything about you. The more grateful you are for what you have the more you get a whole lot to be grateful for. 2. Think abundance. Don’t limit your thinking by your feelings and by what you see. Break every barrier in your mind. 3. Everyday set out seeking to be good to people. A little kindness is all that is needed.

34

11. Believe in yourself and also believe you have something special to offer the universe. 12. Take a nap, rest when necessary; you are not here to solve the entire world’s problems. 13. Sing out loud; it’s not about your voice it’s about the music inside you. 14. Life is a risk. If you risk nothing, you gain nothing. Risk wisely. 15. Don’t think the world owes you something; it owes you nothing; if you need something go make it happen. 16. Take a walk. You can walk your pet. Take a quiet walk alone. 17. Meditate! Pause, think and reflect often.

Little Things that Create BiG iMPACT

18. If you are married; have good sex as often as possible. It bonds and heals. 19. Plan and prioritize daily. Keep a journal. 20. Engage in a new hobby. 21. Your health matters. Go green; eat lots of vegetables and fruits and drink lots of water daily. 22. Keep a positive attitude always. 7 Steps to the Dream “Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things that you didn't do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore, Dream, Discover.” ~ Mark Twain Here are the steps to help you do it now! 1. Get a dream: In order to have a dream come true you must first have a dream. Identify your dream; your specific goal, your target. I believe everyone has a dream, although some people may say that they don’t have dreams or they can’t remember ones they had. The problem is that they have pushed them down so deep that it might take some time to bring them to the surface again. Let your dreams out, you are worth it. 2. Write down Your Dreams: Clearly outline your dreams. Put them into writing 38

and read your major goals every day. Get it engrained into your subconscious. How can you live your dreams if you can’t see what they are? Write them down. Remember; ‘’don’t judge your dreams or wonder how you are going to make them happen’’. 3. Slice the Chunk: Break your dreams down into smaller actionable tasks and steps you can follow through: Example if your goal is to write a book within a year, write your outlines into chapters and set deadlines on how you are going to write it chapter by chapter. After this, start taking baby steps towards your goal. Each day ask yourself; ‘what one specific thing can I do to inch me closer to my dreams?’ and then do it. 4. Fight your fears: Stop the dream killers. If you face your fears you become fearless. What’s keeping you from living your dreams? Not enough money or time? There will always be a reason not to do something.

Little Things that Create BiG iMPACT

5. Get an accountability partner/team: Some dreams are so huge that you can’t do it all by yourself. You need teamwork to make the dream work. Find an accountability partner if not your team partner, someone who will check on your and hold you accountable on the journey of your dreams. They should be people who love you and will cheer you on as you move towards your dreams. 6. Review your goals: Occasionally pause and look at your goals again, assess yourself how far you’ve gone in the realization of that dream, celebrate tiny progress, correct yourself where you’ve fallen short and get back on track. Remember: The fun part of living your dreams is the journey. Enjoy the journey. 7. Persist/ be relentless: Persistence has its own reward. You must arm yourself never to 40

give up, because there will be challenges, storms, and obstacles along the way. Persevere against the odds. Remember: nothing good comes easily. Make it happen. Anytime you feel like giving up, go back and look at your big picture again, your written goals and the reasons why you want it so badly. Keep the dream alive. “Until one is committed, there is hesitancy, the chance to draw back, always ineffectiveness. Concerning all acts of initiative (and creation), there is one elementary truth that ignorance of which kills countless ideas and splendid plans: that the moment one definitely commits oneself, then Providence moves too. All sorts of things occur to help one that would never otherwise have occurred. A whole stream of events issues from the decision, raising in one's favor all manner of unforeseen incidents and meetings and material assistance, which no man could have dreamed would have come his way. Whatever you can do, or dream you can do, begin it. Boldness has genius, power, and magic in it. Begin it now.” ― William Hutchison Murray

9 Unlikely Sources of Motivation:

Growing up in Africa/ A visit to Africa

Motivation comes from different sources in diverse ways. If you change the way you look at things, what you look at changes. Enjoy this... 1. Anthills. So inspiring! Anytime you come across one, pause, take a look and reflect. The anthill didn't just pop up in a day but by dint of hard work coupled with daily perseverance and commitment. If ants could do that you too can make your dreams come true. 2. Trotro. Fun-filled, you get to hear the latest news, gossips and motivation in town. The drama from co-passengers, drivers' mates etc. If you've never used a trotro before, you are missing out on a lot of fun; the opportunity to learn certain key lessons in life and hear 42

people's views on varied national, personal, social and other issues. Try boarding a trotro today and experience the fun of it. 3. Queues. (Queuing for things) Interestingly, you get to chat with others in those queues. Occasionally you will enjoy the drama of others jumping the queue. These are times you can be reading a book or listening to some positive and quality music/message. 4. Sound of rain. Raining on a hot afternoon. Dancing in the rain as a kid. "Life is not about waiting for rain to stop, it’s about learning to dance in the rain", the opportunity to fetch and store some water. Early morning rains at the village and raining at dawn, so refreshing. 5. The African Woman(the contours and curves, nursing mothers). The beauty of

Little Things that Create BiG iMPACT

the African lady in itself is inspiring. Women always are a great backbone of the African child. Appreciate your mum especially. 6. Compound houses (playing and eating together). This builds up solid companionship. The fun of playing together. Here are some childhood games you might have enjoyed and missed. i. ‘Piloloo’ ii. ‘Ampe’ iii. ‘Maame ne Paapa’ iv. ‘Chaskele’ v. Stay vi. Counters ball vii. ‘Konko’ car race. 7. Empty containers (water bottles, coke bottles). It's amazing how many uses an empty bottle has; I will say unlimited. It suggests that there is always something to be done about any situation no matter how hopeless it may appear or sound. 8. Funerals. As much as we honour the dead, Funerals are big parties in Africa, 44

especially in Ghana. A good gathering of family and friends. You are most likely to find your future partner or business partner at such gatherings. A reunion. 9. The cultural dance (drums and music) Music has always been part of the Africa especially with our Oral tradition. The African has music and dance that come with its deep life lessons and relevance to its heritage and people. Get a collection of some of these songs and be inspired. It's a beautiful life.

Make it your sacred or secret place: It could be your altar where you pray. It could be where you pour your heart out, you cry, shed some tears and be free. You let go the pain.

50

21. Rehearse: practice your speech, sermon, song. Talk to yourself. I do this most often.

“Musicians, like golfers, have to put their minds in the right place – trusting, confident, enjoying the pressure, being in present. And so forth. Otherwise, no amount of practice or “Time management” will make them better. The same is true in all professions: if you’re stuck in the Training Mindset, evaluating yourself, or thinking in the past or future, you will not perform up to your potential. You will waste a lot of time, be an inefficient performer, and likely assume you need to manage your time better. In reality you need to manage your thinking better. ” ― John Eliot, Overachievement: The New Science of Working Less to Accomplish More

3 D’s to Overcoming Digital Stress Most of life’s stress comes from unfinished tasks. Tasks screaming at you all over the place, ‘finish me’, ‘finish me’! Learn to use the three (3) D’s to de-stress your life. 1. Do it! – Learn to finish every task you start. It also boosts your selfconfidence. 2. Delegate it! – You can’t do it all by yourself. Identify people in your area who can equally do the work or even do it better. Learn to say no to the things you can’t do, don’t overload yourself. 3. Dump it! Yes, simply dump it. You may not be able to complete all that you start, identify the ones worth doing and focus on it with all your energy, delegate the ones you can’t and dump (ignore) the rest. Enjoy a stress-free life. It’s a wonderful life.

52

Don’t stress S – Stretch (Go out and stretch) T – Tame your ego (You don’t need to be doing everything, delegate) R – Relax (Take a break) E – Exercise daily S – Simplify (Break task down into chunks, live simply) S – Sleep (Yes, take a nap between work, a good sleep refreshes the mind and energizes the body). It’s healing. Enjoy Life!
