Nota Bene!
Notes on the next two weeks

Friday, May 11, is TLS Track & Field Day beginning at 1:00 PM at Holliday Park. More details to come. Plans are also afoot for a special schoolwide assembly and science expo and other fun activities for the first half of the day, so stay tuned for details there, too. Trinity’s 8th Grade Baccalaureate & School Awards Ceremony will be held on Friday, May 18, at 7:00 PM. Please come and show your support for our graduates and all of our students who have won awards this year! Plans, preparations, and ticket-sales are in full-swing for the TLS Gala & Auction fundraiser on May 19. More information— and tickets!— are available in the church & school office. Join us on Thursday, May 24, at 6:00 PM for an end of the year BBQ sponsored by the Trinity PTL.

TLS Touchstones #8:
Good News > No News If you’ve gotten the sense that things have been awfully quiet at TLS lately, and you’re feeling like an update would be nice, this column is for you! First, we apologize for the delay in getting the April issue of Vox Trinitas published. Normally you can expect to see this newsletter in lieu of the ‘Friday Memo’ on the first Friday of every month, but several events conspired to prevent publication on the regular date this month. Since we just passed the last Friday in April, you can expect the ninth and final issue of Vox Trinitas toward the end of the school year, which (as it so happens) is right around the corner: May 25. That’s as good a segue as any into what we have to share with you today. This school year is Kantor Borg’s last as a full-time teacher at Trinity. Kantor has been laying plans for a family business for quite some time now, and he and his family are now ready to move beyond the planning stage. We’re very excited for the Borgs as they begin

April 28, 2018 this new venture. Yet this is not “goodbye”: we’re quite pleased to announce that Kantor will still be serving Trinity on a part-time basis as chapel organist, music teacher, and 7/8 math teacher. Mr. Borg will be replaced in his role as 5/6 teacher by Mr. William Cloninger, coming to us from Gutenberg College in Eugene, Oregon. A native of South Carolina and a staunch Lutheran, Mr. Cloninger is excited to be joining Trinity’s faculty this fall. His particular interests

Parent and staff volunteers gathered this morning (April 28) for the ‘Phone-A-Thon,’ calling and following-up with hundreds of local businesses and individual donors. It was a very successful event and a great learning experience for future gala

planning. If you have not yet purchased tickets to the gala, you can do so in the school office. If you’re not able to make it to the gala this year but would like to make a tax-deductible gift, please speak with your child’s teacher. Speaking of fundraising, we'd like to clarify a few points of information regarding charitable giving to Trinity Lutheran School. Some of you have heard that all donations to TLS go through a “split.” This is true— however, it needs to be emphasized that the split does not direct a single penny of donated funds away from the school. 100% of funds go to the school. If you have questions about how the split works or would like to make a designated gift for a specific purpose, please talk to Pastor Hinton. Last but not least by any means: We are elated, quite frankly, to report that in the last five years we have never had this many students pre-enrolled for the fall at this point in the calendar year. We feel very good about this, and we hope you do, too. If you have not re-registered, please send in your completed forms ASAP. If you have questions, please talk to Pastor Hinton or Mr. Demarest. Please be sure also to spread the word to those families you know who might be interested in a classical Christian education for their children. Enrollment is still open.

Highlighting our Teachers (cont…)
Where did you go to school? I graduated from Belleville Township High School East in Illinois and then went on to Southern Illinois University. From there I went to Illinois State University in Normal, Illinois. I ended up finishing my undergrad education at the University of Texas in San Antonio.  Tell us a little bit about your family. I am the oldest of three children— I have a sister and a brother— and I have three children of my own: Micah, 18; Melvin III (Trey), 16; and Mia, 10.  What are some hobbies and/or interests that you have? I enjoy photography, scrapbooking, and traveling. I’m a swim mom, so I also enjoy watching and cheering for my boys at their swim meets. What are people most surprised to learn about you? Probably that while living in Germany, I had the opportunity to go through “Checkpoint Charlie” into East Berlin before the wall came tumbling down! I learned how to ski in Austria, I’ve been to the Louvre in Paris, and I’ve taken a ride on a

gondola in Florence…all before finishing high school!

Truth be told, that’s probably striking the right proportion. This is not to say that news and being informed is unimportant— far from it! We especially want to be sure that all TLS parents, friends, and advocates are well-informed regarding what’s going on here. To that end, if you ever have suggestions regarding what we could do better on that front, please do not hesitate to put those forward to a teacher or administrator. God’s blessings to you this May.
