Speech bubble photo mobilisation Welcome to the I

Arctic global community mobilisation!

People all over the world and from all walks of life will come together on April 20 to form huge human banners spelling out a clear message to our political leaders: I Arctic Together we will draw a line in the ice and demand protection of the Arctic from oil drilling, and all industrial activities that put this fragile and precious environment at risk. From Buenos Aires to Bangkok and from Berlin to Bangalore we will join in the call for a global sanctuary at the top of the world. We know that what happens in the Arctic affects us all that’s why we take joint action in more than 30 countries across the globe. Aerial photographs and videos from all our human banners will be gathered and presented to the leaders of the Arctic Council when they meet in May 2013 in Northern Sweden. Let’s make our common voice heard by those who have the power to make Arctic protection become reality! To spread the word about the I Arctic project, we ask you to help us with photographing as many people as possible with the I Arctic speech bubbles. Once uploaded, shared, liked and retweeted across Social Media, these photos will help to mobilise many people to join us on the big day on April 20! Here we go...

1. MAKE A SPEECH BUBBLE Just print out this document on A3 sized paper in a copy shop, grab a pair of scissors, some glue and an old cardboard box and build your own speech bubble! There’s a front side and a back side for each speech bubble- the front side with the I Arctic logo (this is the side facing the camera), and the back side with easy instructions about how to take and where to upload your photos.

2. TAKE A PHOTO Get someone to photograph you with your speech bubble, capturing your head and shoulders and the speech bubble held up beside you. Look into the camera and open your mouth to shout it out, or sing it even: I LOVE ARCTIC! You can of course also take a speech bubble photo of somebody else, or even many other people, and upload them to the web! Tip: Hold the speech bubble by the small triangle to make sure your hand doesn’t cover the message.

3. SHARE IT ONLINE On Facebook: Post your photo on Greenpeace's ‘Save The Arctic’ page at http://www.facebook.com/arctic.rising or search in Facebook for the ‘Save The Arctic’ page - the one with more than 213k likes is the right one! Once uploaded, you will find your photo in the section ‘Recent Posts by Others on Save The Arctic’. You might need to re-load the page before you see your photo online. Tagging: If you upload photos of people whom you are friends with on Facebook, please tag them in the picture to make sure they’ll see their own picture and have the opportunity to share it with their friends. The hand-out: The last page of this document contains a template for small paper hand-out, you can hand out to people in case you will upload their picture to Facebook later on. Once back at their computer, people will find the address of the ‘Save The Arctic’ Facebook page on the hand-out, and can locate their photo online and tag themselves in their photo. Tip: The faster you upload people’s photos to the ‘Save The Arctic’ Facebook page, the more likely is it that people will find their photo when visiting the page for the first time. On Instagram and Twitter: Post your photo with your own Instagram or Twitter account, and tag it with #ilovearctic and your city name (like #dublin or #riodejaneiro).

4. SPREAD THE WORD While taking the photos of your friends, family and co-workers, don’t miss the chance to spread the word about the ‘I Love Arctic’-project and kindly invite folks to join the Global Day of Action on April 20 - as one of the many thousands of people around the world forming I Arctic human banners, or even as an organizer! Right now, we are building our I Arctic website, where you will find all information about the I Arctic Global Day of Action on April 20. If you would like to learn more about the big day already now, if you would like to know if there is any event being organized near you, or if you would even like to organise an event yourself, please get in touch by emailing [email protected]. We will then put you in touch with a Greenpeace organizer near you. Let’s make the magic of a global mobilisation happen! Your I
