Ruthven Park National Historic Site Ruthven Park, designated a National Historic site in 1998, is a 1,500 acre (647 hectares) property on the Grand River. Ruthven Park was the former home of the Thompson family for 150 years and was donated to The Lower Grand River Land Trust Inc. in 1994 to protect as a natural and cultural resource for the public to enjoy. Port Maitland Lock In combination with a lock around the Dunnville dam and locks further up the Grand River, the Port Maitland Lock allowed small ships and barges to travel from Lake Erie to Brantford.
