SR 400 PERMANENT FLEX LANE CLOSURE: The flexible shoulder lanes “flex lanes” on SR 400 northbound and southbound from Abernathy Road to Pitts Road are closed. The closures facilitate the construction of collector-distributor (CD) lanes, walls, bridges, and interchange improvements. The existing 12-foot outside shoulder from Abernathy Road to Pitts Road will be reduced to an 8-foot shoulder by placing temporary concrete barrier. Motorists will only be permitted to use the narrowed 8-foot shoulder for emergency purposes. The shoulder lane is no longer available as a travel lane at any time. The flex lanes north of Pitts Road will remain open daily to commuters from 6 a.m. to 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. to 7 p.m., Monday through Friday. MOUNT VERNON HIGHWAY AND BARFIELD ROAD DETOUR: Commercial vehicles traveling on Mount Vernon Highway eastbound approaching Barfield Road southbound will travel straight through the intersection, turn right on Peachtree Dunwoody Road, right on Hammond Drive, and right onto Barfield Road. This detour is in effect due to a minimized right turn radius at the intersection of Mount Vernon eastbound and Barfield Road. Traffic pacing will periodically occur on the I-285 eastbound and westbound on-ramps to SR 400, both northbound and southbound, from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. to assist crews supply deliveries and construction. Pacing may require the ramp lane width be reduced to allow construction vehicles to enter and exit the work zone. Additional project information is available at http://www.dot.ga.gov/BuildSmart/Projects/Pages/I285SR400.aspx. ADVISORY: Exact construction dates may change due to weather or other factors. Motorists are cautioned to reduce their speed while traveling through work zones. Pay attention and watch for workers.
