1.1 ANNUAL HEADLINE INFLATION BY CENTRE The centre of Arua registered the highest Annual Inflation of 5.0% compared to the 9.1% that was recorded in December 2014. This was driven by high price levels for clothing, rent, firewood and meals in restaurants. Kampala High Income registered the second highest Annual Inflation of 1.7%, same rate recorded in December 2014. The main drivers were high price levels of rent, clothing, household textile and furniture. Mbale registered the third highest Annual Inflation of 1.6% compared to the 2.1% that was recorded in December 2014. The main drivers were high price levels of rent, communication and education charges. Inflation rates of other centres refer to Table 1

1.0 ANNUAL INFLATION The Annual Headline Inflation for the year ending January 2015 declined to 1.3% compared to the 1.8% that was recorded for the year ended December 2014. This is mainly attributed to a 6.5 % deflation in Annual Food crops prices for the year ending January 2015 compared to an earlier deflation of 2.7% that was recorded in December 2014. However, the Annual EFU inflation increased to 2.9% for the year ending January 2015 compared to the 2.0% registered in December 2014. On other hand, the Annual Core Inflation was 2.7%, the same rate that was registered in December 2014 (table 1).

1.3 OTHER GOODS AND SERVICES INFLATION The Annual Inflation for Other Goods increased to 1.4% in January 2015 compared to the 1.0% recorded for the year ended December 2014. The Annual Inflation of Services for January 2015 declined to 4.4% in January 2015 compared to the 4.6% recorded for the year ended December 2014 (Table 7). 2.0 MONTHLY INFLATION The Monthly Headline Inflation for January 2015 went down further by 0.6% from the 0.1% decrease recorded in December 2014. Similarly, the monthly Food Crops Inflation for January 2015 dropped by 3.7% from the 3.5% decrease registered in December 2014. The Monthly Core Inflation decreased by 0.1% in January 2015 from the 0.5% increase recorded in December 2014. However, the monthly EFU Inflation for January 2015 rose by 0.7% from the 0.3% decrease registered in December 2014 (Table 1). The Monthly Food Inflation, which includes food crops and processed foods, dropped by 2.0% during the month. The drivers were a decrease in prices of matooke, sweet potatoes, Irish potatoes, cassava, passion fruits, pineapples, sweet bananas, mangoes, tomatoes, cabbage, onions, maize flour and fish in most centers. However, there was an increase in prices for oranges, tangerine, bitter tomatoes, green pepper and milk. In the non-food category, a decrease in prices was recorded for kerosene, petrol, diesel, charcoal, clothing and transport fares. On the other hand, an increase in prices was observed for firewood, electricity tariffs, pharmaceutical products and rental services in some centers during the month.

1.2 FOOD AND NON-FOOD INFLATION There was a continued deflation in Annual Food prices to 3.3% in January 2015 compared to the deflation of 1.9% recorded during the year ended December 2014. The Annual Non- Food Inflation declined to 3.5% for the year ending January 2015 compared to the 3.6% recorded for the year ended December 2014 (Table 6).
