“The Player Care events were created to bring together like minded individuals to share expertise and discuss best practice surrounding player welfare.  As you may be aware, the Premier Sports Network presents a series of invitation only events for senior executives from clubs, federations and agents. We also have partners who are specialists in their respective sectors offering support and advice to ensure that player’s interests are ring fenced.  Showcasing the extensive work that goes on behind-the-scenes - Agents, Player Liaison Officers, Academy Directors, Education & Welfare Officers, Safeguarding Managers - will demonstrate how they ensure a player’s well-being off the pitch is as prosperous as possible.  With leading names across the spectrum confirmed to speak, our new format will see the day sparking topical debate with intuitive panel sessions taking place.    We hope you find the day enjoyable and insightful as we take you through the challenges that players and their advisors face in a career journey starting at youth level, then migrating to the first team and ending in retirement. “

Panel Session: Behaviour Management

In any industry, an out-of-work misdemeanour can seriously damage the reputation of employee and employer, but when it happens with sportspeople, the media spotlight heightens the impact for both player and club. Not only, therefore, does the support network for a professional sportsperson work hard to minimise the negative impact of bad behaviour off the pitch, so too does it work hard to make sure it doesn’t happen in the first place. In this session, panellists discuss what approaches work to ensure sportspeople are the role models off the pitch just as much as they are on it. The Premier Sports Network in with association with: Panel Session: Supporting Non-Sporting Interests

The career of a professional sports person is short, and often when they retire in their 30’s, sport is all they have ever known. Unfortunately, the ‘what next’ scenario is all too common particularly when retirement is looming and which can then be too late. History is littered with examples of recently retired sportspeople who have suffered bankruptcy, depression and alcoholism. In this session, panelists discuss what support needs to be offered to professional sports people during their career – financial, educational and vocational – so that a plan is in place when their sporting career comes to an end.
