Unit Director – Middle School Youth Development Director of School Site Operations Exempt Primary Function

The Unit Director directs/manages overall daily operations with the primary concern for programs and service delivery, supervision and training of staff, facilities management, community relations and membership administration. Performance Based Standards Performance is acceptable when the Unit Director is accomplishing the following to the satisfaction of the Chief Executive Officer, the Director of Operations, Director of School Site Operations, and the School Principal: Leadership  Oversee the implementation and delivery of operations, programs, services and activities that facilitate achievement of Youth Development Outcomes.  Ensure a healthy and safe environment, ensuring facilities, equipment and supplies are maintained.  The programs and activities within the unit have a clear vision and have widely understood short-term and long-term plans. Written goals and objectives are established through a collaborative process and support the overall mission of the Boys & Girls Clubs. Program Operations  The unit’s programs are fun, interesting, and diverse and reflect the needs and interests of its Members.  The unit is well attended with frequency of participation rates and overall membership consistently growing or being maintained at high levels. Average daily attendance meets or exceeds goals as established by the Chief Executive Officer, Director of Operations, and Director of School Site Operations.  The unit’s programs receive positive evaluations from Club Members.

Participant data is accurately and easily organized into reportable format for communication to constituents and others with an interest and/or need to know. The unit’s environment is welcoming and comfortable and contributes to the success of the programs and activities. Club Members participate in activities in all five core program areas. Club and community service is emphasized and Club Members regularly participate in service-learning opportunities. Program activities include frequent opportunities for the inclusion and support of parents of Club Members. All program goals and objectives are met, especially as concerns those conveyed within grants and through community partners and funders. Program outcomes, as measured by the Formula for Impact survey or other evaluation methodology, and its structure, as evaluated within the Formula for Impact Assessment and WASCIP (if applicable), are at a high and positive level. Program data is recorded accurately and reported on a timely and consistent basis, including human resources (i.e. timesheets) and accounts payable.

Strategic Planning  Plan, develop, implement and evaluate unit overall programs, services and activities to ensure they meet stated objectives and member needs and interests. Compile regular reports reflecting all activities, attendance and participation. Resource Management  Manage unit financial resources assisting in the development of annual program budgets. Control expenditures against budget.  Ensure administrative and operational systems are in place to maintain the operation of the physical properties and equipment of the Club.  Manage performance of assigned staff in achieving goals, providing technical assistance in program design, development, community relations and program operations. Program staff clearly understand their roles and responsibilities in the program.  Recruit, manage and provide career development opportunities for staff. Conduct regular staff meetings. Community  Core program activities include the frequent involvement of other community services and organizations.  Develop collaborative partnerships with other youth serving organizations, members, parents, families and community organizations. Marketing & Public Relations  Stories of member accomplishments are regularly shared at staff meetings, with the Chief Executive Officer, Director of Operations, Director of School Site Operations, and with the Director of Development.  Program activities are regularly communicated to youth throughout the community in various ways.



         

On-line social networks and other technology based resources are consistently utilized to share program schedules and happenings.

Additional Responsibilities Written work is error-free, neat, and accurate. Paper and electronic records are up-to-date, accurate, and organized. Assigned work is completed by established due dates.

Multiple tasks and responsibilities are organized in priority order in a manner that fulfills daily responsibilities while continuing to make progress towards longerterm objectives. Work is accomplished within the framework of established guidelines and policies. Issues and concerns with other staff, Club processes, programs, volunteers or any other matter are addressed promptly and in a professional, respectful and courteous manner. Purchase or approve purchase of supplies and equipment. Exercise authority in problems relating to members; utilize guidance and discipline plan. Membership and participation in one or more professional development associations. Assist with at least two of the organization’s special events (Golf outing or Vintage in the Valley) or third party events (Quarry Quest, Turkey Trot, or Things that Go). Working Conditions

Work hours will generally coincide with the hours the Club is open to members. Long distance travel will be infrequent but local travel to area school and organizations may be required on a frequent basis.

Relationships Internal: Communicate fully with the Director of School Site Operations and others with a need to know. Be informative, timely, candid and accurate. Maintain close direct contact with Club professional staff to interpret and explain organizational mission, program objectives and standards, discuss issues, and provide/receive information. External: Maintain contact with external community groups, schools, members’ parents and others to assist in resolving problems and to publicize the Club.

Preferred Education and Experience        

Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university preferred. A minimum of three years work experience in a Boys & Girls Club or similar organization planning and supervising activities based on the developmental needs of young people, or equivalent experience. Demonstrated ability in personnel supervision, facilities management, and the recruitment and retention of key personnel. Considerable knowledge of youth development principles, behavior management, guidance, outcomes evaluation, collaboration, and program management. Ability to deal effectively with members, including discipline problems. Demonstrated ability to direct multiple program operations, the recruitment and retention of key personnel; facilities management and budget management. Ability to organize and coordinate multiple demanding tasks and responsibilities. Substantial oral and written communication skills. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with a large number of organizations and individuals.
