Mahadevpura Lake gets a high capacity Sewage Treatment Plant as part of a multistakeholder initiative with BBMP BENGALURU November 16, 2017: In an unique initiative, four leading corporates in Bengaluru have come together to partner with United Way Bengaluru (UWBe) and BBMP to construct an eco-friendly 1 Million litres a day (1MLD) Sewage Treatment Plant (STP) at the Mahadevapura Lake in the city. Supported by Amazon, Mphasis, Dell and HTC Global, the multi-stakeholder effort is aimed at improving the state of Mahadevapura Lake which adjoins their offices. The ground-breaking ceremony took place today at Mahadevapura Lake. The STP when set up and ready for use will treat one million litres (1MLD) of sewage water per day throughout the year. UWBe has demonstrated success with its Wake the Lake campaign, and is bringing together skills and expertise from various fields. The STP will have zero dependence on electricity for treating sewage water. Monitoring systems will ensure that the STP works at optimal efficiency. Centre for DEWATS Dissemination Society (CDD) and BORDA, a German Technology firm have provided technical expertise for installation of the STP. The civil construction is being led by Revlon Engineers. Mr. Dale Vaz, Director Software Development, Amazon says, “The lakes and water bodies of Bangalore foster a vibrant socio-cultural life for citizens as well as encourage the spread of a rich biodiversity. We are very happy to associate with UWBe and BBMP for this initiative.” ‘’We have a responsibility to give back to the society we reside in and this project with UWBe and BBMP is one such effort. We are delighted to see the first steps being taken towards restoring Mahadevpura lake. We hope this initiative will bring back the much needed bio-diversity, benefit the local community and revive its lost glory. This is a classic example of collaboration and co-creating sustainable solutions to safeguard the nature for our future generations,’’ said Meenu Bhambhani, Vice President and Head of Corporate Social Responsibility, Mphasis. Echoing similar sentiments, Sarv Saravanan, SVP and GM, Dell EMC India COE said, “We at Dell Technologies have always been committed to the good of the people and the planet. The STP initiative at Mahadevpura Lake is an extension of this commitment. We are glad to partner with UWBe, BBMP and other corporates.”

With water taking centre-stage in the push for cleaner and greener environments in recent times, this initiative is a step towards meeting the objectives of policy makers, corporates and civil society at large,” said Manish Michael, CEO, UWBe. “It makes us immensely proud and happy that we have the support of civil society and corporates and they are doing so much to make our city clean and green,” said B.V.
