All Color Runners will gather at the start line and be divided into waves. A wave will leave approximately every three to four minutes. The wave cuts are random so make sure your team is all together if you want to run and enjoy the colour madness together. The start chute will stay open for 30 minutes so if you’re having loads of fun in the warm up area, you can still join the queue until then! Remember the event is not timed so there is no reason to go CRAZY and elbow jostle for position. Take your time and enjoy the experience with your friends and family!

PLEASE make sure your bib number is attached and visible on the FRONT of your shirt on event day. This is how you will be identified as a Color Runner at the start/finish line. You will not be allowed into the start chute without a white shirt and race number. Teams may run in a group or separately, it is completely your choice. It is also a good idea, especially on hot days, to have a water bottle with you in the start line as it could be a short wait for your wave to start.

The event is for everyone. Some people will run the entire 5k. Some will walk it. Some might even dance the 5k. Our experience is, most participants will do a little bit of all three on the course. In order to accommodate this glorious combination of activities on course we have just

Each kilometre of the event is associated with a designated colour: Pink, Blue, Yellow and Orange. As you hit the COLOR ZONES at roughly each kilometre, you will be blitzed with colour by our volunteers, sponsors and staff. The colour is a special recipe of magical colour dust. All products are 100% natural, safe and food grade quality. To keep it out of your eyes our “certified” Color Throwers try to aim low as you pass by. Some Color Runners opt to wear glasses or goggles for their eyes and use a bandana or dust mask for their mouths. We certainly recommend that The Color Runners wear sunglasses or some form of eye protection. Please do not completely stop in The Color Zones. This will create a bottleneck and problems for runners behind you. We cross our colourful hearts to try and get as much or as little colour on you as you like!

Look out for our friends Ocean Spray at the Pink Color Station, Original Source at the Yellow Color Station, and Capital FM at the Blue Station. They have some surprise experiences for you along the way!

The fun isn’t over when you cross the finish line…in fact it’s only just begun! Grab a bottle of water & your Color Powder Pack and give yourself a pat on the back for running a 5k, then come join the post event party! After you pass under the finish arch you will be directed to the Festival Village which is where all the post run fun takes place. Friends and family are welcome to meet up with The Color Runners in the general festival areas. Our DJ friends at Capital FM will be pumping the tunes on the Finish Festival Stage, and our sponsors have lots of fun activities for you too. Fancy getting in a pit of Ocean Spray cranberry balls with your buddies? Getting some free Original Source Shower Gel? Playing swingball with the NSPCC team? Taking a giant selfie photo with Metro? There’s a lot of fun to be had!

Every 15 minutes, we will countdown to a mass Color Throw. This creates the famous Color Cloud. Join us as we welcome all Color Runners to the Finish Festival. Everyone throwing colours into the air at the same time creates a spectacular sight. This is where you’ll want to use the Color Pack you received as you crossed the finish line. Hopefully you were able to resist throwing it for this long. Trust us, it’s worth the wait. If you have used, lost or forgotten your personal Color Powder Pack (handed to you at the finish line), you might be lucky enough to catch one of the give-aways from the stage!

Food and drink are available in the local shops along Madeira Drive. Please make sure to bring water with you for the start of the run.

We will have our cleaning station set up to dust you off before the ride home. Just look for the “Cleaning Zone’’ which will clean any powder off you. Well most of it anyway! Make sure if you’re using public transport that you bring your poncho to wear on the way home to protect the trains and buses!

A good solid shower will get rid of most of the colourful powder. Any remaining colour will be gone in a few days. We are sorry, there will be NO “Color Excuses” keeping you from going to school or work the next week 

Our sponsors Original Source, Ocean Spray and Honor as well as our Official Charity partner the NSPCC and our media partners Capital FM and Metro will be giving away goodies, running activities and sharing in the colourful fun on the day. Be sure to stop by and see them after your run in the Festival!

If you are running with small children, please watch and direct them through the event. If you are concerned at all with any part of the experience, feel free to wear safety glasses, a bandana or a dust mask. Please follow the directions provided by event officials and volunteers. Above all, please be courteous and respectful to everyone around you.

With thousands of Color Runners in attendance on event day there is the always the possibility of our smaller Color Runners getting separated from their parents. If you are running with your children (then you are the coolest parents ever!), the kids will no doubt have a great time. Just in case, please register your child here and include your contact details just in case they get separated from you. That way we can get in touch with you should we find ourselves with some new small friends at the Info Tent.

If you do find a lost child please bring them to the Information Tent in the warm-up or finish area and our team will then work to find their parents.

Do I need to be Mo Farah to do this? Oh my goodness, NO! There are plenty of other great 5ks out there to test speed and performance. We’re all about a colour crazy day with friends and family. You can run, walk, crawl, or cartwheel it if you wish! How strict is the “white clothing dress code” for the start of the event? We will have white clothing police inspectors located throughout the event. You will be arrested and put in jail if more than 11.8% of your person is a hue other than white....just like at Wimbledon, honest! Were you kidding about the question above? Yes we were. As long as runners wear shirts that are mostly white, you are totally good. They can include team logos and any other image you see fit. To the point…it’s really just more fun to run starting in white and ending, well…. COLOURIFFIC !!!!! How is the colour administered? You will see smiling faces along the course whose main goal is to douse you in colorful powder to ensure that you look like you ran through a beautiful rainbow by the time you cross the finish line.

Will the colour ruin clothes or running shoes? The colour mostly washes out after the event. However, as with anything dirty, the sooner the gear gets washed the better. Dust off all excess powder before washing with water. Wash your coloured gear separately and use cold water. We suggest wearing items that you wouldn’t mind getting colourful. If you would like to preserve the colour in your running shirt, we suggest spraying it with vinegar and ironing it when you get home. This is the most likely way the shirt will retain its colouring. Are cameras and phones safe to have in the colour zones? Our event photographers are totally fine shooting from a medium distance (5-8 metres). If you want to get shots right in the midst of the colour we recommend covering cameras/ phones with plastic wrap. Is the run timed? The run is not a timed event. Even Mr. Farah would take his time out there to maximise the colourful fun! We suggest self-timing for anyone desiring a finish time. Why do you keep spelling ‘colour’ the American way? The Color Run is an American brand that has arrived in the UK, so it’s missing the British ‘u’. We like to encourage all our Color Runners to put the ‘u’ in colour on the day, and use our UK #ColourMeHappy!

How does the colour affect the inside of cars? You went all out, you’re covered in colour and if you don’t take precautions, your car will be too. Be sure to visit the “Cleaning Zone” before you leave the event site. If you’re driving or taking the tube, use your poncho or bring something (towels, plastic, rubbish bags, etc.) to cover the seats before you sit down.
