University will clash with rivals Pirates in the 2017 Women’s Premier Final, a repeat from 2016, where University prevailed. Little separates both sides, with the match expected to go down to the wire. University: The youthful University side have had a great season to date, they secured the first round trophy and would love nothing more than to become back to back champions. For them to win, they will rely heavily on their hard working forward pack which includes Kelly Whitten, Georgia Mason and the return from injury of co-captain Tegan Hollows. In the backs the midfield combination of Islay Fowler and Sam Hollows will be crucial, along with secondary school sensation Meg Breen on the wing. Meg is an out and out speedster and her transition from Secondary School rugby to Premier rugby has been impressive. Pirates: Experience is a word being used a lot from within the Pirates camp this week, they have many old heads who have been there done that, and will be looking to do it one more time. Expect Gemma Tuhega to lead the way upfront, the experienced campaigner has been in fine form this season and so often she sets the platform for the Pirates forward pack. In a huge boost for Pirates, hard running outside back Kristina Moata’ane returns from injury. She is a damaging ball runner and if give some space, will be hard to stop.
