DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES The Communications and Publications Programme is responsible for defining the messaging and positioning of UNWTO, as well as coordinating and implementing all institutional communications of the Secretariat. It is also responsible for the production and dissemination of UNWTO publications, including the management of the UNWTO e-library, as well as for UNWTO’s archives and Documentation Centre. Under the supervision of the Programme Chief, Communications and Publications, the incumbent performs the following duties: 1. Creates design solutions that have a high visual impact including the design of UNWTO publications, posters, newsletters and other related materials; prepares materials for printing; 2. Supports the production and publication of organizational materials, including the development and provision of design and lay-out for the Organization’s publications; assists in the publication of online materials and supports the design and development of both the UNWTO Intranet and UNWTO Website; 3. Develops creative ideas and concepts, chooses the appropriate media and style to meet the Organization’s objectives and produces clear, concise and vivid materials that convey key messages to target audiences; 4. Performs style and quality control in line with the UNWTO style and guidelines and plans, monitors and creates graphic design standards to ensure that graphics are of a high international standard; 5. Contributes to the formulation of policies, protocols and procedures to streamline graphic design production and workflows; 6. Manages images and the UNWTO photo library; 7. Performs other duties as required. REQUIREMENTS Academic

Completion of secondary education, preferably supplemented by technical or university courses in a field related to the assigned programme in the organization.

Experience and Basic Competencies

      

Five years of progressively responsible technical or administrative work, of which at least one year closely related to support of activities in the specialized area of the G-5 level job; Communication skills; Teamwork; Planning and organizing; Accountability; Creativity; Client orientation;

 

Commitment to continuous learning; Technological awareness.

Languages

 

Fluency in English and Spanish; Good working knowledge of one of other official languages of the Organization (Arabic, French or Russian) is an asset.

Computer Skills

  

Computer literacy in Microsoft Office software and Windows 7; Computer literacy in Macintosh OS 10 and design and editing programmes: Adobe CC InDesign, Photoshop and Illustrator, Video editing software such as Adobe Premiere and Adobe After Effects, Acrobat Pro or similar; Knowledge of HTML and CSS.

Remuneration

The initial base salary is EUR 41,823 per annum.

Other conditions

The initial grade and step on appointment will be determined by the Secretary-General on the basis of qualifications and in the light of previous similar appointments and could be at a grade different from that shown above. Appointments are normally at step 1 of the grade. The Secretary-General reserves the right to appoint a candidate at a lower level than the advertised level of the post. If, following consideration of applications, the Secretary-General proceeds to fill this vacancy, a fixed-term appointment for a period of two years – subject to a four-month probationary period – will be offered. This contract may then be renewed once, up to a maximum total of five years. At the end of this period, the Organization will discuss whether to grant or not an indeterminate appointment. There is, however, no guarantee either that the initial contract will be renewed or that a career appointment within UNWTO will subsequently be offered. The type of recruitment is local.
