URGENT: REGION 2, 3, 4 & 5 INFORMATION The Little Athletics NSW Hot Weather Policy will be adhered to at all Regions this weekend. Click HERE for the Policy. The following information has been provided to LANSW by the relevant Region Coordinators.

Region 2 – Glendale Due to the forecast of extremely hot weather conditions for this coming weekend, Saturday & Sunday 11 & 12 February, a decision was made by carnival management that the Region 2 Championships to be held at Glendale Hunter Sports Centre has now been postponed. The decision to postpone has not been taken lightly and has been made looking at the health and safety of all involved in the carnival. The Carnival will now be run the following weekend, on 18 & 19 February at Hunter Sports Centre Glendale, with the event list and times remaining the same. There is no other available weekend.

Region 3 – Dubbo The carnival will be proceeding as planned on Saturday and Sunday. In considering the safety of all stakeholders the following immediate changes will be made to the running of the carnival:  A timed program for the carnival will NO LONGER be utilized. Instead we will revert to calling events to the call room using the 1st/2nd call method over the P.A.  The scheduled start time for both days of the carnival has been amended. Competition will commence on both days at 7:30am with the first call being 7:15am.  Please note: the exception to this will be in relation to the U12 to U17 1500m walk, which will commence at 7:05am on Sunday.  The order of events for both track and field will change based on the weather conditions and athletes need to be prepared for their events at any time (events will be conducted on their previously scheduled day).  The 3000m will not be conducted before 7pm on Saturday.  Competition will continue while ever the officials feel it is safe to do so. Weather dependent, there may be further changes made to competition procedure during the carnival if officials deem it is in best safety/health interests of all stakeholders. Updated information will be posted on the Western Ranges Zone Facebook page.

Region 4 – Wagga Wagga The following modifications to the program for the Region 4 Championships have been made in advance of the carnival this weekend:  The carnival will still commence at 8am on both Saturday and Sunday, however the previously advised program times will no longer apply.  All track events will now be conducted as timed finals. This means that only heats will be conducted and the times recorded from the heats used to determine placegetters in each event. There will be no finals conducted.  In all field events (with the exception of high jump), athletes will have only 3 trials, with the top 8 athletes after the first 3 rounds having only 1 further trial.  Events will cease when the temperature/humidity reaches the cut-off point from the LANSW Heat Policy, and will resume again later in the day/evening IF the conditions fall back below the cut-off. Events may be conducted up until approximately 8.30pm on Saturday evening.  The 3000m events will be conducted when it is considered safe to do so. No particular time has been determined for these events at this stage.  Any events that are unable to be completed on Saturday will be moved to the Sunday program.  Weather dependent, there may be further changes made to competition procedure during the carnival if officials deem it is in best health interests of competitors and officials.

Region 5 – Narrabeen

By following the LANSW Hot Weather Policy this weekend, be assured that we have a complex weather station from which we will be taking heat and humidity readings every 15 minutes as the temperature increases. This will be done from the infield area. The carnival will be postponed until the temperature/humidity comes back into the permissible range for competition. This may mean the carnival becomes very delayed and if this is the case, we ask for understanding as we cannot predict when the conditions will improve. Should we have our first heat delay prior to lunch time on Saturday we will make a decision around lunchtime about the rest of Saturday’s program. If Saturday’s program is abandoned, Sunday will start as scheduled and the Saturday program will be continued at a time to be announced. As you can see it is very important that we start on time at 8am to get as much of the program completed as possible.  3000m races - we have already taken the decision that the 3000m races will be run at 7am on Sunday morning. It is likely to be much cooler at that time than the scheduled time on Saturday afternoon. Can you please ensure that all your 3000m athletes are informed of the change of time?  Please ask all your athletes to start hydrating NOW and continue to do so right through the carnival.  As well as more water containers out for competitors around the ground, we will have our innovative water tent in use again at the finish line, in addition to the water fans and sprayers around the ground for distance races. Updated information will be posted on the Manly Warringah LAC Facebook page.
