Using the Apple iPad with Paychex Online Paychex® Online (www.paychexonline.com) offers clients and their employees, CPAs, brokers, and financial analysts a single portal to access Paychex Online services and applications. The next step in the evolution of Paychex Online enables authorized Paychex Single-Sign On users who have an Apple® iPad® (all versions) to view their data and reports in Paychex Online. Available from the iTunes® App StoreSM, the Paychex Online Mobile app for the iPad gives users 24/7 wireless Internet access (Wi-Fi or 3G) to their payroll and benefits data and reports with the touch of an icon.

First, Get Registered... Before using the app for the first time, be sure to complete the Paychex Online account registration and setup using a desktop or laptop computer connected to the Internet. For assistance in registering or getting connected to Paychex Online, employees must contact their payroll administrator. For further assistance, payroll administrators may contact their Paychex representative at (888) 246-7500.

Important! Paychex Online Mobile is only available to users with a Paychex Online account who access www.paychexonline.com for their online services. Next, Download the App... 1. Using the iPad and a wireless Internet connection, tap the App Store icon and search for Paychex Online Mobile. 2. Read the app description and note the Paychex Support link: http://www.paychex.com/support/paychex-online-mobile/ 3. Tap Free, then Install App, to download the free Paychex Online Mobile app. The icon displays on the iPad Home screen.

Then, Log In... 1. From the iPad Home screen, tap the Paychex Online Mobile app icon.

2. From the Paychex Online Mobile login screen, tap the Username field to display the keyboard. Enter your Paychex Online user name and password credentials. Tap Enter (keyboard) or Log In to begin.

3. From the app main screen, tap the Apps tab on the right side of the screen, then select Paychex Online Mobile from the slide-out list that displays.

4. If you are an administrative user, enter your Paychex Online PIN, then tap Enter (keyboard), to complete the login process.

Email access is not supported in the app and the “Forgot Username or Password” selfhealing functionality is not available. If needed, log in to Paychex Online from a desktop or laptop computer to use this functionality.

At this point, you are accessing Paychex Online through the app. You may use the threefinger screen tap gesture or tap the control menu tab at the top of the screen to access the keyboard, if needed. Refer to the later topic, “Using the Enhanced Screen Control Menu,” for more information about locating the gestures used in the app. Although the “Forgot PIN” functionality is available on the Enter PIN screen, you must access the response email from a desktop or laptop computer to reset your PIN.

Later Log Ins... 1. From the iPad Home screen, tap the Paychex Online Mobile app icon.

2. Your Paychex Online user name automatically displays on the Enter Credentials screen. Tap the Password field and the keyboard displays. Enter your Paychex Online password, then tap Enter (keyboard) or OK to begin. 3. If you are an administrative user, enter your Paychex Online PIN, then tap Enter (keyboard), to complete the login process.

Paychex Online Differences When Using the App The app may be used to view data or reports you have access to in a Paychex Online application, such as Online Reports or Paychex Online Payroll®. Although the app is full featured, desktop or laptop computer access is recommended for intensive data entry tasks. Some functionality, such as printing and file importing/exporting, is not currently supported by the app. When using the app to access Paychex Online functionality, some screens and navigation functionality may behave differently than when using an Internet browser on a desktop or laptop computer. Here are several recommendations that offer the easiest ways to navigate throughout Paychex Online when using the app.

ADJUSTING THE IPAD SCREEN RESOLUTION Apple iPad 1 The only available screen resolution is Auto-fit Screen (1024 x 768). Paychex Online is best viewed in landscape mode. Some scrolling may be needed to see the entire screen. Apple iPad 2 Auto-fit Screen is the default resolution, but Paychex Online is best viewed in landscape mode with a screen resolution of 1280 x 800. Using this resolution will help reduce scrolling in Paychex Online applications. From the app main screen, change the resolution to 1280 x 800 by tapping Settings > Display.

USING THE ENHANCED SCREEN CONTROL MENU When using the app to access Paychex Online, some common iPad navigation or finger gestures you are accustomed to using do not function the same after starting the app.

Enhanced screen functionality is always available by tapping the control menu tab (white triangle) at the top of the iPad screen. Home

Displays the app main screen.

Pair

The Wireless Trackpad option is not supported.

Arrow Keys

Helps you select options in a drop-down menu.

Keyboard

Displays the on-screen keyboard to enter data in text or numeric entry fields.

Pointer

Controls more precisely when tapping links and data entry fields or selecting menu options.

Magnifier

Zooms in on an area of the screen as your finger moves across the iPad screen. Inside the magnified area is a mouse pointer to use for precise tapping.

Gestures

Displays common finger gestures that work in the app and throughout Paychex Online.

Switch

Switches your view between active Paychex Online Mobile windows, such as your main screen and a Learn More or Help screen.

PRINTING REPORTS

The Home option is useful if you want to change display settings after logging in to Paychex Online. After tapping the app Home button, you must reenter your password to return to Paychex Online. As a shortcut to tapping Keyboard, use the threefinger screen tap to display the keyboard. You may use a Bluetooth® keyboard if it was synced previously with the iPad using Settings > General > Bluetooth. The Pointer behaves like a cursor controlled by a trackpad. Be sure to locate the on-screen pointer before tapping the screen.

The app does not currently support printers, including AirPlay®-enabled printers, connected to your iPad.

STORING AND IMPORTING/EXPORTING ONLINE FILES The app does not support the storage and management of files on the iPad. This includes the import and export of files in Paychex Online applications, such as General Ledger Reporting Service and Paychex Online Payroll.

LOGGING OUT OF PAYCHEX ONLINE Tapping the Logout link on the Paychex Online screens displays the “You are now logged out” screen. Do not tap Log in on this screen. Instead, log out of Paychex Online by pressing the iPad Home button . Your session ends after 30 minutes of inactivity. Alternatively, doublepress the iPad Home button to display all active apps, then force close the app to log out of Paychex Online.



Did you switch to another iPad app or the Home screen? Access the Paychex Online Mobile app again. You may be required to enter your password to reconnect to your Paychex Online session.

INCORRECT LOGINS AND SESSION TIME OUTS Incorrect logins display the “Access Gateway” message. Tap OK, force close the app, then start the app again and enter your login credentials. For security reasons, your session times out after 30 minutes of inactivity. Access the app again and enter your password to reconnect.
