Vacancy Announcement Planner (Exempt) Salary Range $33,005.02 to $49,189.40 annually Minimum Requirements: A bachelor’s degree in urban planning, geography, public administration or related field, plus one year of professional planning experience. A Master’s degree may be substituted for the required experience. Primary Purpose Provides technical transportation planning support and program and policy implementation as assigned. Supervision Under general supervision. Knowledge Possesses knowledge of principles, procedures and practices of planning. Abilities Effectively execute planning activities; Read and interpret maps and other graphic material; learn applicable codes, ordinances, state statutes, federal regulations, charter provisions, and the Long Range Plan; conduct research; utilize a variety of computer software applications; effectively present data and information in visual aid form; compile a variety of data and information; follow oral and written instructions; communicate effectively both verbally and in writing; perform effectively as a member of a team; present an overall professional image; perform the essential function of the job without posing a direct threat to the health and safety of others. Physical Requirements Performs bending, sorting and reaching from ground level to overhead; must be able to hold and grip objects; must have ability to operate a computer keyboard; must be able to push, pull, lift and carry up to 25 pounds for filing and other related tasks; subject to sitting for long periods of time. Provides technical support regarding transportation planning and development issues. Performs assigned projects, tasks and duties related to plan preparation, maintenance and implementation as well as planning related research. Manages and initiates consultant contracts, as well as monitoring process, necessary revisions and coordinating payments.

Assists with public information and citizen involvement programs related to assigned projects and programs including responding verbally and in writing to questions and requests from the public regarding transportation projects, funding, and planning. Also responds to press inquiries and notifies press of important projects and amendments to plans. Researches records; collects and analyzes data; reads and interprets, and verifies legal descriptions, maps and aerial photographs, and conducts field surveys. Maintains applicable legal and technical records and reference materials. Works with local jurisdictions and community committees to provide technical assistance. Updates GIS records and produces maps as necessary. Meets with area jurisdictions to facilitate project development and funding.
