In 2016, the City of Vallejo disposed of roughly two million pounds, or 1,000 tons, of illegally dumped trash and debris. Next month, the City will provide residents an alternative solution to combat illegal dumping: a Free Dump Day. The City of Vallejo and Recology Vallejo will be hosting a Free Dump Day on Saturday, July 8 from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on Railroad Street on Mare Island. Vallejo residents are invited to participate and proof of residency will be required. Acceptable items will include: tires, furniture, mattresses, refrigerators, garbage, yard waste, all appliances, E-Waste (anything with a plug) and metal objects. Unacceptable items include: household hazardous waste, chemicals, sharps or medical waste and construction and demolition debris. Residents will be allowed to make multiple trips throughout the event. U-Haul or Box Trucks over 10 feet will not be allowed. Vallejo residents wishing to participate in the Free Dump Day Event must enter Mare Island from the Highway 37 entrance; participants are prohibited from entering on the Mare Island Causeway Bridge.

Cal Maritime Cadet- Community Connection Seek Volunteer Hosts

Join the tour of the Napa River aboard the Dolphin Charter boat with hostess Myrna Hayes from the Mare Island Shoreline Heritage Preserve on Sunday, June 25. The tour begins at 42 Harbor Way. Beginning in historic Vallejo, the cruise continues along the waterfront of Vallejo and Mare Island. Beyond Vallejo you will see vineyards, agriculture, backwater

Cal Maritime's CadetCommunity Connection is looking for volunteer hosts for this year's program. Hosts and their families provide friendship and connection to Cal Maritime cadets who may be away from home for the first time. Hosts are asked to submit a background check and attend a training session. Click here to see dates and times. A meet-andgreet event will be held on campus on Wednesday, August 23 at 5:30 p.m. Applications will be accepted through July 31. Applicants must be 28 years of age and live within a 25 mile radius of the Cal Maritime campus. For more information, click here.

Verismo Opera Presents Carmen by Georges Bizet

38th Annual PAL Golf Classic Vallejo PAL will be hosting its 38th annual golf tournament, cosponsored by the Vallejo Police Officers Association, on June 23 from 11:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. at the Blue Rock Springs Golf Course.The event will include a four-person handicapped scramble tournament. The entry fee is $135 per golfer, which covers a golf cart, box lunch and an awards dinner, which will be held at the Mare Island Museum. Checks may
