Factory OS Establishes Roots in Vallejo Lennar Mare Island (LMI) and Holliday Development announced this week that Factory_OS, a division of Holliday Development, will be opening a new manufacturing facility later this year in historic Building 680 on Mare Island. Factory_OS will manufacture multifamily housing in the 250,000-square foot space, offering a controlled environment where developers can complete their projects faster and at lower cost than conventional construction. The primary goal of Factory_OS is to reduce the cost of housing for individuals and families and includes the involvement of UC Berkeley's Terner Center for Housing Innovation. The facility is anticipated to open by December 2017. Built in 1940, Building 680 is one of Mare Island's largest buildings. As part of its commitment to building rehabilitation, especially for historic structures on Mare Island, LMI invested significant resources upgrading the interior and exterior of Building 680, making it ready for future users, including repainting the exterior and refurbishing the "Mare Island Naval Shipyard" sign at the top.

A Wall Street Journal article reported today that Google owned Alphabet Inc. is negotiating an order to buy 300 apartment units from Factory_OS. It would be the first order for the company with an anticipated value of $25 to $30 million. The article can be accessed here.

Measure B Status Report

Summer is a time to enjoy a variety of indoor and outdoor activities with friends and family. Solano Public Health is encouraging residents to consider the following safety tips to ensure everyone has a safe, healthy and happy summer season. 1. Make water safety a priority. Drowning is a leading cause of unintentional death in children ages one to four years, and swimming pools and beaches pose the greatest risk. The latest issue of the Measure B Status Report is now available on the city website. The voterapproved Measure B is a one percent sales tax used to enhance City of Vallejo services, approved by voters on November 8, 2011. Measure B funds are used to resolve both resident and City Council identified issues and concerns within Vallejo. Measure B raised $13.66 million during Fiscal Year 2015-16. It is estimated that Measure B will raise approximately $14.34 million during Fiscal Year 2016-17. Measure B funds are budgeted as part of the annual budget approval process by the City Council. This publication is intended to enhance transparency in the Vallejo's communications with residents and businesspersons, and stimulate community participation.

VibeSolano Healthy Store Makeover

The Solano County Department of Health and Social Services, Public Health Division is proud to announce its sixth healthy store makeover at Bourbon House Beer, Wine and Spirits in Vallejo. As part of the VibeSolano healthy store makeover initiative, Bourbon House's

Wear loose, light-weight and light-colored clothing and take frequent water breaks. Apply sunscreen with a SPF of at least 15, and stay cool with cool showers or baths. 3. Summertime can mean mosquitoes and ticks. When outdoors, use insect repellent containing active ingredients approved by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and check yourself and children for ticks. Do not panic if you find one and use tweezers to remove. Fighting Back Partnership, a non-profit organization in Vallejo, has been conducting customer surveys at Bourbon House in preparation for the healthy store makeover. They asked 80 customers about their shopping experience and what healthy options they would enjoy seeing at Bourbon House. Fighting Back Partnership is a non-profit that partners with businesses, residents, and the government to improve neighborhoods, strengthen families, and support youth development by creating a safe, healthy and thriving community. In an effort to increase access to healthy food selections, Solano County Public Health's VibeSolano initiative is leading this healthy store makeover, along with the community volunteer-based group Vallejo Together, Food Empowerment Project, and other community volunteers. The Bourbon House makeover will take place on Saturday, June 10 from 7:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. A community celebration event will take place on Friday, June 16 from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at Bourbon House Beer, Wine and Spirits, located at 641 Broadway Street.
